Debat Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story

This "documentary" looks to be a propaganda piece. The preview includes the allegation that Zimmerman would have been arrested that night if not for the "stand your ground" law. But did Florida's Stand Your Ground law apply in this case?

First, we have to understand that the “Stand Your Ground” principle applies only to innocent people attacked outside their homes, in a place where they have a right to be. In some jurisdictions, there is a “retreat requirement”—the innocent victim is expected to retreat until retreat becomes impossible and deadly force is their only recourse. It has been called a “back to the wall” law. Some jurisdictions have never required that. The specific Stand Your Ground laws rescind that retreat requirement and allow the innocent victim to respond immediately with appropriate defensive force. That’s what Stand Your Ground means. No more, no less. The evidence shows that Zimmerman was retreating and returning to his vehicle when he was chased down and attacked by Martin. Martin sat on Zimmerman's chest and beat him in the face, and beat his head against the concrete sidewalk beneath him. The Stand Your Ground law did not apply in this case. It was a simple case of self defense.

The media crucified Zimmerman in the months leading up to the trial. Of course there are no laws which hold the media accountable for publishing misleading stories.

In the trial the forensic evidence presented supported the story Zimmerman told the police the night of the shooting. He saw a young man loitering in the rain, looking into apartment windows. There had been many break-ins in the area and the neighborhood watchman called the police to alert them of a possible robbery suspect in the area. He gave a description. After the dispatcher told him he didn't need to follow the suspect the audio of his clothes rustling stopped, and then began again as Zimmerman stopped walking after Martin and changed directions to return to his vehicle.

Trayvon Martin had been expelled from high school and was caught with drugs and stolen jewelry. These acts didn’t go through the criminal justice system because school authorities wanted to keep their crime statistics down. The evidence, including cell phone records and Facebook messages of the deceased Trayvon Martin, showed he called himself a “gangsta” and nicknamed himself “No Limit Nigga.” He was negotiating to illegally buy a handgun, and was apparently involved in marijuana trafficking. These breadcrumbs also revealed his interest in street fighting, and he was angry an opponent beat him using a “martial arts mount” — making him want a rematch. Also, he was disappointed one person he punched out didn’t bleed enough. None of this information was released to the public.

The news media ran a photo of Trayvon from when he was just 12 years old, giving the impression that a sweet young boy had been shot. The media also touched up the police photos taken of Zimmerman the night of the shooting. The actual photos show Zimmerman suffered lacerations and bleeding to his face and the back of his head. But the news media removed the wounds and blood from the police photos they showed to the public.

And now this farce of a documentary is pushing the fake memes we were fed all those years ago. Trayvon Martin was a drug taking thief who enjoyed beating people up. He chased down the out of shape Zimmerman and began beating him senseless. Zimmerman was at risk of losing his life to a felony assault by Martin when he pulled his concealed handgun and fired one round into Martin. It was a justifiable homicide. That is why he was not arrested that night. It was only after the President of the United States, Barack Obama, became involved and the media began pushing it's fake news of the incident that the police were forced to arrest Mr. Zimmerman.

Paramount should be ashamed of this propaganda.
