Elite bediscussiëren

English abstract The Elite series (S1) is still a choral soap opera with a sophisticated atmosphere, with very marked and somewhat schematic characters and a generally predictable script and something basic in the approach and resolution of its conflicts (a problem in most Spanish fictions current) and that incurs in repetitions, with characters who distance themselves and reacquaint themselves cyclically. Its subplots and secondary characters are more interesting than the main one and the police element is permanently blurred. Adolescence is a period of incomplete and still limited people, in permanent transformation. And it seems that this limitation of the characters permeated the series as a realization.

English Review The arrival of three scholarship holders to a very expensive Spanish private school alters the status quo and initially generates resistance among its students. The series is a long flash back from a murder. We have class conflict, gay characters, Muslim characters of immigrant origin, evil girls, rebellious girls, heavy boys, corruption, a lot of male nudity at the beginning to set the audience, a lot of sex, adults almost absent in the plot and from time to time some good well placed dialogue or phrase.

The Elite series continues to be a choral soap opera with a sophisticated atmosphere, with very marked and somewhat schematic characters and a generally predictable script and something basic in the approach and resolution of its conflicts (a problem in most current Spanish fictions) and that incurs in repetitions, with characters distancing and reacquainting themselves cyclically. Although it is followed with interest (and at times with some involuntary amusement) in addition to those mentioned, the series presents two problems: the police element would be constantly forgotten if it were not for the recurring scenes of police interrogations (very similar to each other) and the Subplots are more interesting than the main one, perhaps because they are more credible and fresh and because they are better acted.

In this way, the series leads to a conclusion that is coherent and, if you like, realistic. Adolescence is a period of incomplete and still limited people, in permanent transformation. And it seems that this limitation of the characters permeated the series as a realization instead of enhancing it.
