The first season blew my mind. I love films and tv shows about terrible people being bastards to each other and this did not disappoint. But these characters still have a lot of depth and the whole thing is so sharply written. It's about a complicated subject yet still seems relatively simple to follow, an aspect that the similarly themed Billions doesn't quite manage. Every episode is intense. I haven't started season 2 yet but apparently it's even better.
I would say that this could be the new Breaking Bad/Game of Thrones in that it's going to develop into the mature show that becomes a break out hit and everyone watches and talks about. We don't seem to have anything filling that void at the moment. But it does seem a little too niche while it's repellent characters would probably turn many people off. An acquired taste. But then I would have said the same about Game of Thrones in it's early days too. So who knows.

It was pretty good. I've watched the first two seasons. I hoped it would end there, as the 2nd season had a bit of fluff (not a huge amount, but not as tight as the first), but ended strongly...
I liked the Machiavellian elements, the struggle to keep the family together, the business together, etc... There was enough of the outside world to give context as well.. those elements (power/family) were the strongest parts of the show.
But it seams like this is going to Season 3... So it tells me they don't actually have an idea of what the full thing is and they're just making it up from season to season, so it's hard to tell if it'll continue to be good.
I tend to prefer mini-series for this reason. I'll still probably watch the first couple of episodes of Season 3 when it's out... We'll see

I thought season 2 was even better than season 1, mainly because of the better ending. I thought the ending to season 1 was a bit deus ex machina. The ending to season 2 felt perfect and I'd see it as the perfect ending to the show if they left it there as it did seem to bring the story to a close brilliantly. It could possibly be the most satisfying ending I've seen in a show.
But of course they are doing a season 3 so the story will go on. And as I find it so entertaining I don't mind that. I do want to see more. And the position the characters would now be in would create a totally new dynamic and make it interesting in a totally new way. I'd like to see these characters all fractured and having lost their positions of power. I'd like to see how they cope, how it changes them, if it changes them. I'd find it fascinating. So I am of two minds about it continuing.
I'm not so sure if they are making it up as they go along as the season 2 ending did seem very seeded and planned. As we see Greg tell Kendall about the documents he kept back at the end of season 1. But maybe they will be winging it now, who knows.
Mini series can be great too. I think a mini series can have a better chance to be better than an ongoing series because you know it's not gonna be dragged out. But on the rare occasions that an ongoing show does keep it awesome to the end then that is an experience a mini series can never really capture.
