Discuss Lost in Space

The new incarnation looks good and hits all the dramatic beats you expect but it's not the same without the theatrical, campy Jonathan Harris as Doctor Smith. His screen presence and acting added so much to the show.

The original robot was a great character in his own right. He was the comedy foil to Doctor Smith and that added a comedic element to the show. The new robot is boring! Has all the personality of a rock.

Speaking of "boring", Toby Stephens brings nothing to John Robinson. Die Another Day is one of the most hated Bond films but Stephens' Bond villain - Gustav Graves - had some pantomime flair and presence. Stephens doesn't have much material to chew on in Lost In Space.

The rest of the cast is good and Parker Posey makes an interesting version of Doctor Smith but it's hard for her to shine in her own right when the shadow of Jonathan Harris lingers over the show.

Not sure why the new version has to have multiple Jupiter ships and crew. The point of the show was ONE family lost in space, not an entire colony!

Overall it's a decent update and will probably appeal to people that like serious sci-fi, but it lacks the silliness and comedy of the original show. I'm sure many people think the original Lost In Space was a bit lame and silly but that was part of its charm.

"You bubble-headed booby!"

Do you wonder why the robot can only say the one "famous" line (Danger Will Robinson)... Obviously it has the capacity to learn... why can't it actually try to communicate a little bit more... (I've only seen the first 5 ep's. Maybe that will change?)

I think the "danger" line is paying homage to the robot from the original series.

The show has very good production values, sets and effects. But such bad science, The first show with the frozen lake that becaomes solid ice in seconds but our heros are still doing find. The temp would have to drop to something like 200 degrees below zero.

I really like this iteration. But have to agree about some of the science. Well actually, most of it can be passable from a fantasy sci-fi perspective, but the water freezing thing in ep 1 was ridiculous. Other big budget films have done something similar, but that's no excuse. I just pretended the lake froze at the surface only instead of how it was depicted, which made no sense. Despite that, I really liked the scene in general, and like the robot saving the day. But the way the water froze when they on the surface had their faces exposed with no issues was just plain goofy.
