Officer Jim Street is so (umbilically) attached to his mother (Karen Street), that he is completely blind to her shenanigans. She is in prison (25 years to life) for killing his father and seems to hold a powerful position as kind of a drug dealer there.

In S1E03 "Pamilya" she sent Street to rough up her drug supplier as a warning to the competition. When his team leader Hondo told her to leave her son alone, she retaliated in S1E09 "Blindspots" by having one of her lackeys accuse Hondo of “unlawful search and seizure, theft, excessive force while off-duty.”

Fortunately Hondo could prove that it was all a lie. He told Street about this, but she came up with some cock and bull story and of course Jim believed his mother.

Will she turn him against Hondo and so cause his downfall?

Street doesn't have much luck with women.

In S1E07 "Homecoming" he asks his S.W.A.T. partner Christina ("Chris") on a date. She says "No":

Chris: "I just have a hard policy against dating cops, any cops, anywhere, let alone on the same team."

Later he asks Jilly, the videographer, but she also rebuffs him. The situation becomes awkward when he discovers that she is going out with Chris.

So he was rejected by two women on the same day. If that happens a lot, it might explain why he is so hung up on his mother's love.

In S1E17 "Armory" he almost got caught sleeping with a married woman. He escapes by jumping naked from a two story window into a swimming pool.
Later, his partner Chris helps him with his dating profile and even has a chat with his first date to emphasize what a perfect catch he is.
