Discuss The Orville

"I was born in a time of dreams. We were pure of spirit and devout in our beliefs. The blessings of Avis were showered upon us and brought our greatest hopes to life. But now, we face a looming nightmare. We brought this nightmare upon ourselves when we placed our faith into the hands of a false prophet."

"On the eve of the election for the new Supreme Chancellor of the Krill home planet, a Union delegation arrives in the capital city to sign a peace treaty. Mercer's ex-lover Teleya, who is against this treaty, wins the election by a slight margin. The previous Supreme Chancellor Korin plans to contest the results, but there is a bloody coup, followed by his arrest and execution. Captain Mercer and the Union delegation are taken captive and the USS Orville is attacked by Krill ships."

"Mercer discovers that he has a daughter. Guess who the mother is?"

"LaMarr and Dr. Finn - disguised as Krill - disrupt Teleya's public execution of the delegates and they escape to their ship."

"The Union is now at war with the Kaylon and the Krill. The revelation of Anaya's existence to the Krill could change all this. What will Mercer do?"

Admiral Halsey: "There is one card left to play. If we want to."

Captain Mercer: "Anaya."

Admiral Halsey: "Revealing her could force Teleya's hand."

Captain Mercer: "Admiral, she didn't ask to be born into the eye of a storm. And I gotta be honest, I'm not so sure Teleya wouldn't make her disappear just to protect the regime."

Admiral Halsey: "You really think she'd be capable of that?"

Captain Mercer: "I thought I knew her. I don't."

Admiral Halsey: "She's your daughter. The President is leaving it up to you."

Captain Mercer: "Tell him thank you. It's very possible that I'll never see her again."

Side notes

At the beginning of the episode there is a title card with a dedication - "In Memory of Lisa Banes, 1955-2021" - to Lisa Banes, who passed away in June 2021. She played Speria Balask, the Xelayan member of the Union delegation.

"I am deeply saddened at the news of Lisa Banes’ passing. We had the good fortune to work with her on The Orville this past year. Her stage presence, magnetism, skill and talent were matched only by her unwavering kindness and graciousness toward all of us. A tremendous loss…"

I've been finding season 3 to be rather disappointing. The production values have changed, the effects seem more fake... and they're grabbing silly plot points from all over, the most obvious probably being the "love child brings peace" thing.

Watch this series for as long as it lasts. After August 4, 2022 there might be only NuTrek left for scifi fans.

Disney is obliged to keep Hulu alive until at least 2024 because of its shared ownership of the platform with NBCUniversal. It is already moving content from Hulu to Disney+ and "The Orville" is not going anywhere. 'New Hope'? frowning

I've never wasted any time on NuTrek, so I won't miss it when it goes away.

NuTrek Is here to stay. I was talking about "The Orville", which is on the bubble, because Disney might be ditching Hulu after 2024.

Oh. Well I've heard that there might not be an Orville season 4 anyway. Regardless of Hulu continuing or not. Sounds like Seth MacFarlane may not want to do it any more.

He and Scott Grimes are filming the TV show "Ted". They can have more fun there.

Still not impressed. The Union ships appearing was beyond cheesy! And I will double down on my opinion that the 'overwhelming' music is really jarring at times & IMO unnecessary. A little child shall lead us? 🙄

You have no clue what you're talking about. Seth MacFarlane is on record stating he wants to do more seasons of The Orville
