Discuss The Orville

"All hands. This is the Captain. We're about to enter unexplored space. I know you all are just as excited as I am and I know you're all going to do your best. So, let's give this everything we've got, and may the Force be with you."

"Entering haunted house."

"Dr. Claire Finn's ex-husband Vice Admiral Paul Christie arrives on the USS Orville. He will be taken to a Krill vessel to negotiate Union access to the Neklav Sector which lies beyond Krill space."

"Claire is not too happy to see him again. Their relationship ended in an acrimonious divorce twenty-five years ago."

Paul: "How about we get some dinner afterward? Got a lot of years to catch up on."

Claire: "Maybe it's best if we just stay focused on the job at hand. There's a lot at stake here, and I don't think either of us need any distractions."

Paul: "Right. I didn't mean to push. I was just excited to see you again."

"In exchange for the extraction rights of harcarium - used in propulsion systems - on the uninhabited third planet in the Union's Obrall system, the Krill are prepared to allow passage for only one Union vessel. A tracking beacon will be installed on the ship so that the Krill can monitor their coordinates at all times."

"The Vice Admiral is interested in exploring the Kalarr Expanse, but the Krill warn him against going there."

Krill: "It is a domain of evil. Demons dwell within the Expanse. The Anhkana warns of Shadow Realms. Gateways to the depths of the underworld, where demons lie in wait to possess the souls of those who dare to stray within their reach. They corrupt all that is holy. Within their grasp, even the most righteous can be forced to commit unspeakable acts of depravity."

Vice Admiral Christie: "We appreciate the warning, and we'll take every precaution, but that area covers more than half the sector. We are explorers. So if it's all the same to you, we'd like to see for ourselves what's out there."

Krill: "Sala tallo ka vaspa ko loy."

"The USS Orville enters the Naklav Sector with the Vice Admiral, who hopes to have another chance with Claire. Soon they pick up a distress signal from inside the Kalarr Expanse and Captain Mercer orders them to take the ship there."

"The signal is coming from a space station and a landing party - including the Vice Admiral - goes there to investigate. The station is made out of some kind of highly advanced bio-technology. They return to the ship to analyze their findings. Suddenly the Vice Admiral collapses with violent convulsions and is taken to sickbay where he starts to mutate into an alien creature. Dr. Finn suspects that he could have been exposed to some kind of micro-particulates - bacterial spores - that is rewriting his DNA. After the transformation is complete, he infects others and using his level 9 command codes tries to take over the ship. The space station comes alive and starts transmitting a homing signal."

"Lieutenant Talla knocks out several alien creatures and carries one of them to Dr. Finn to study and find a counteragent. The doctor cannot reverse the transformation, but she does discover that they have a weakness."

Claire: "Wait a minute. I'm reading white blood cells. He was human. The cell count is low. Really low. It means the transformative process takes an enormous toll on the body. Based on the scan, it must be at least a couple of weeks before their immune systems are back up to full strength. I could create a synthetic virus. It wouldn't have to be any stronger than the common cold, and it'd probably be fatal to them."

"The decision is made to not kill the alien creatures immediately, but to give them a warning and a chance to leave peacefully. They locate the alien creature, who was once the Vice Admiral, and Dr. Finn convinces it to leave with the other transformed shipmates. But the creature warns her that they will return."

Alien creature (fka Vice Admiral Christie): "We go. Not forever."

  • Send the most important people to explore an alien ship
  • Go onto alien ship without any form of protection
  • Touch walls, lean into things that look like they'd grab your head and munch it
  • Let active gene modification lie on a table in the middle of a room and stay in close proximity without any protection

Looks like the most incompetent crew in the universe.

And of course their bio-weapon is "the sniffles".

RELEASE THE SNIFFLES SNAPE!

but sir...

RELEASE IT!

DO IT!

That reminded me of Stargate SG-1.

I was expecting a face hugger like in Alien.

You didn't say that slaughtering an opponent has never been a thing in Starfleet, you said in Star Trek.

Ohhh, you're 1 of THOSE people who needs validation by mincing trivial matters.

You have my sympathies. (kidding, you don't)

And while they didn't finally succeed in wiping out the Founders, they sure tried. It didn't have to fully succeed to be "a thing." And I expect a lot of them did end up killed along the way.

Section 31 TRYING something isn't indicative of the entire franchise of Star Trek being known for slaughtering opponents.

Oh Knixon, Knixon, Knixon..... mind if I call you "Richard" from now on?

If you'd paid any attention to the episode, you'd know the Union's bio filters did not detect the "Demon People" bacterium.

That is why Captain Mercer and the Admiral were amongst the landing team, coupled with the fact both are explorers.

You spend so much energy trying to poke holes, one might think you're a pornstar on the side.

That wasn't me.

Boy am I glad this forum has an ignore feature 👋

vobldem,

You responded to the wrong person! Knixon didn't write that comment.

It would seem this person and Knixon, or Richard as I call him, are near identical avatar twins.

But.... an Orville hater by any other name would still be worthy of scorn.

Seeing as the closed-minded hater felt the ignore function was their only recourse after being called out, I'd say mission accomplished and good riddance

Has anyone ever told you you look exactly like someone else?

I'm not an Orville hater, I can just see that season 3 isn't as good as 1 or 2.

Some people can't accept that others have a different opinion. 1&2 were good, this season is visually stunning, story-wise it's garbage. Maybe for sci-fi beginners they'll be overwhelmed by the visuals and ignore the story.
