Many agree that this show - as a homage - looks and feels like the "Star Trek" tv series.
"The Orville", of course, has given it their own take.
Do you think they've improved on it or not?

All these shows have been available for free through your favorite torrent system, and will continue to be.

Also they're far from new and actually pretty late to the game. The Girl From UNCLE was in 1966-67. Right at the same time original Star Trek began.

The male characters of the original show were not replaced by females, e.g. Joséphine Solo instead of Napoleon Solo. There were other spin-off shows where a female - coexisting with her male counterpart - played a similar character, but now women are replacing the male characters in the reboot, remake or sequel of shows and movies.
Of course, that's the trend, so I expect it to continue. Sometimes it's still entertaining, like Joan Watson in "Elementary (2012)", other times not so much, like Juliett Higgins in "Magnum P.I. (2018–)".

Yes, that was part of my point. They were doing it better even 50-plus years ago. It's hilarious that TV producers etc are claiming to be "enlightened" NOW just because they turn Mr Starbuck into Miss Starbuck or whatever.

Well according to some influencer/poster when the promo for the new Terminator came out it is was so amazing because the female cast and that that was new (not)and that men were only playing a minor role(like it was something new). It's just an example that these influencers /paid shills don't know what the Hell they are talking about And yes Sarah Conner (Linda Hamilton) was the lead in the original Terminator and is a fine example how to write strong female characters without having to turn her into überwoman(although in T2 she kinda turned into one (check put those muscles Hamilton has but in that case it was understandable because she had been preparing for her to take care of John Conner for the impending Judgement Day )
And I was not talking about the cast I was talking about it's predominately male fan base.Like I said when studios start specifically mentioning the female cast it looks increasingly like studios taking an advance so that if people criticize the movie for being bad they think twice out of fear of being called a misogynist or that the studios and their PR machine can accuse them for not liking the film because they are misogynists.
And for the two thousand and one time No I didn't want to replace Burnham for Pike because she was female but because at the time when I wrote that(early in season 2) her character was bland ,boring and unsympathetic unlike Pike's character what's so hard to understand about that?

What ever the psychological infliction she has I don't care I found her acting throughout season 1 consisted largely of only two settings ;angry, arrogant, condescending shouting a lot at other people or she was depressed on the verge of breaking into tears in general she has very little things for us to root for her.Pike on the other hand seemed a more balanced and a more amiable character in general in other words a character who Trek fans will identify and relate to as a character Trek fans are familiar with and kinda expect to see in a trek series. So one can come up with all these theories about expectations but the simple fact it remains that it is CBS who raised these expectations by proclaiming the series was going to take place between ENT and TOS and within the established original timeline and when the reality is in conflict with these claims is when people started to complain plain and simple.Just because people have expectations doesn't mean that these are unjustified when a show is blatantly ignoring the simplest and most basic foundations of the established franchise/canon.They kinda tried to make Burnham the Starbuck of the series while her(Starbuck) character works fine and perfectly in the reboot BSG her character doesn't quite fit your average Star Trek series .But in the end the fact that we got to see more of her motivations and got some exposition over her past made a huge difference in Burnham's case

Another episode is "(S)TNG: The Loss (S4E10, 1990)", where Troi suffers an emotional crisis like Alara.
The theme of that episode, 2-D creatures , is also that in the next episode "The Orville: New Dimensions (S1E11, 2017)".
LaMar and La Forge - 'La' coincidence? - both save the day in an episode.
La Forge does this in "(S)TNG: Contagion (S2E11, 1989)", while LaMar in "The Orville: New Dimensions (S1E11, 2017)".
Finally both are promoted to chief engineer.
LaMar - once again - in the above mentioned Orville episode, while the promotion of LaForge is - only mentioned - in another episode, "(S)TNG: The Child (S2E01, 1988)".
So, in season 1, MacFarlane is continuing his 'homage to Star Trek', with references to all these episodes.

In last nights episode TO came across a two dimensional space anomaly an interesting and fun episode reminiscent of similar episodes in TOS,TNG and VOY also the show has quite some catchy quotes .
quote of the episode Yaphit ; "You know what? There was less crap in Bortus' colon".

It's too bad Yaphit wasn't promoted. That would've really made some funny episodes.
LaMar isn't too interesting. He has now been central in two episodes, both times acting like a smart-arse.
Mercer still behaves petty with Kelly. And every time, in the end, he has to concede that she was right.

If Mercer was ever right and Kelly was wrong, these days that would make the show sexist.

Yeah MacFarlane knows his Trek, watched an older Family Guy episode last night it featured Ricardo Montalban doing the voice of a horse.
