Last night I watched the series premiere of this 2017 series and was engrossed, start to finish, not only by the story, look, and very realistic feel/vibe, but also the excellent (especially by Anna Friel) acting. Christina's story thoroughly grabs me. The poor (both literally and figuratively) woman just keeps getting beaten down and squashed more and more no matter what. She and everyone else are good people, just trying to live life and get by, but it's simply not her destiny to be in other than a downtrodden, hopeless existence.
I have never seen any other series or movie with a story angle like this one has regarding Christina's mother, and how things go from the moment, onward, she (C) walks into her upstairs bedroom. If the series premiere hadn't already hooked me by then (which it had), I most definitely was 100% onboard, and wanting to find out what all would happen next, from then on. Heartbreaking.
This is airing on one of my PBS stations, one episode every Friday night for the next five week. So, there's still a long way to go in all the characters' journeys. I've already cheated and read episode summaries on Wikipedia (that, fortunately, don't state what becomes of Christina after a certain point in the series), so have a good general idea of major storylines that are coming up, and am eager to follow the journey.
Really interesting, different series.
