Debat Salvation

Interesting cast. Engaging story. But what do I know, I also liked the first 2 seasons of Under the Dome.

My wife says that the story line is silly and makes the 'powers that be' in America look idiotic. I have to admit that my assessment is not that far off from hers. For the love of God, the world is going to perish in six months or less and the establishment is still fighting over the money needed to save mankind. Who are they saving the money for? There will be nothing left but dust and ashes in 180 something days.

And just where are the Russians and the Chinese? Am I suppose to assume that only the Americans know about the doomsday asteroid? And they are just going to sit back and jostle for the best view of the crashing space rock and maybe even take a few bets on how many people will actually survive the first impact! For sure, Viners and YouTubers will turn out in full force to capture the video of the falling sky, hoping to be the first to post and rope in the most views. Lol...

However, after having said that, I have to say that I do enjoy this series and I will continue to watch it without taking it too seriously. Call me silly if you want!

According to the latest episode, we are to understand the Chinese and the Russians doesn't know about the imminent threat. In other words, they don't have the scientists nor the technology to have made the same discovery as the Americans. This made me laugh actually.

I think part of the premise is that it was an accidental discovery and that no one has the technology to monitor the entire galaxy. Still, is it really far fetched to think that America has an edge? America went to the moon in 1969. No one else has made it yet. In 1942, America sent trucks to Russia to help with the war effort. Then they had to send someone to explain how they work. The Chinese have one aircraft carrier. How can you be a superpower with one aircraft carrier? A lot of tech the other countries have was stolen from the Americans, and the hacking continues. Yes, other countries are producing more engineers and scientists, but it will be decades before this changes anything. And what is the quality of the these engineers? I have heard stories where on joint projects the Chinese are always asking to remove components that enhance safety. Just compare the differences between Three Mile Island and Chernobyl to see who knows what they are doing.

You're absolutely right but there's a conspiracy troll in me that wants to come out and say that there's no way in hell a nation can be so blessed and fortunate, and the rest of the world just looks up to them in awe. I read somewhere that the US got spooked when they heard that China was using their space program for military purposes and shut them down. The Russians built Mir in the 80's and since the "race to the moon" was over they no longer had a higher goal because Mars wasn't realistic to them, or, the US called dibs?

Okay, I have to say, you're being a bit cynical. I don't think there is any implication that only the American's have the technology to find the asteroid. Remember, a student was the one to find it. It was just luck. The solar system is a big place. Asteroids aren't comets. They don't blaze up and announce themselves. Even comets can get close to earth before anyone notices it. It was just luck that an American (not America as a whole) happened to find it.
