Discussão Victoria

I really didn't foresee things ending up as they did in that episode (that aired last Sunday night in the States [I finally got around to watching it yesterday]) and was left totally depressed by the concluding minutes. Emotionally powerful. Not just the event that occurs, but how Victoria responds to it and feels.

I can't see it until Monday. I have 2 local PBS stations where I live, KCTS 9 & KBTC (the redheaded stepchild). I cannot get KCTS to come in on my antenna. So I watch Victoria on the other station. But what pi**es me off is KBTC doesn't carry all of the shows available, Luther being one. They also don't show the ones they do carry until 8 days after KCTS airs it. It's a pain in the tush!

That's got to be super-annoying, especially since I think nearly all PBS stations normally air new documentaries, shows, or episodes of whatever on the same night (and typically at the same hour) as each other.

I'm far (close to two hours driving distance) from any city, though similar distances from two cities, get the multiple PBS stations (one main, plus the two secondary [PBS Kids, PBS Inform, or NHK Japan]) that each has, and usually the primary PBS station from each city airs things at the same time, on the same nights, which also that's typically the night that's the nationwide first airing of whatever it is.

Neither of my PBS stations has ever aired Luther. I think it airs on BBC America or some such cable channel, so am of the impression that Luther for some reason wasn't licensed to PBS, as normally one or both of my main stations air all the big UK series that PBS has airing rights to.

I think that most UK productions that PBS stations air are from one particular UK television network, ITV, that PBS has a partnership deal with. Typically when anything from BBC One or BBC Two, or whatever other network, airs on certain PBS stations, it's individual titles that individual PBS stations have opportunity to purchase airing rights to, but that fall outside of the usual normal nationwide PBS "package" programming.

KCTS aired Luther last year. I remember asking KBTC if they were going to air Luther & they told me 'not at this time'. I live in the PNW (which is covered in snow at the moment, YEAH!) so I don't know if that has any thing to do with it (although it might). KBTC has NHK, MHZ (which I love because they show a lot of shows from Europe). KCTS has PBS, PBS Create, PBS Kids, & PBS World.

I don't know why one of my two regional cities' PBS stations eliminated (about a year and a quarter ago) PBS Create, which I always liked, and replaced it with NHK Japan in the lineup.

Having said that, I do now and then enjoy a few specific travel and food shows that NHK airs, but otherwise never watch anything else that's on that channel. On the other hand, I used to watch PBS Create semi-frequently.

NHK's views on world news are interesting. One late night (early morning) I couldn't sleep & there was an interesting program on about the man who brought fresh water to Edo back in the 1600's. It was very informative (https://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/special/episode/201902020810/)

When I still had cable I used to watch the BBC news occasionally. Funny though, I do not watch news programs that originate in the US (EVER).

NHK can be a good channel when channel-surfing, as not only is there very beautiful sceneries and interesting destinations, and some delicious-looking foods, but the vibe of the channel is decidedly relaxation-inducing (by which I don't at all mean boring - just very mellow and calm). I've always been in to seeing things about travel destinations and cultures, as well as about history, and Japan is fascinating on all counts.

I watched some documentary show on NHK the other night about the many items that can be made from bamboo, and it was both interesting and appealing.
