Discuss Star Trek: Discovery

The rabid fanbase of ST, bolstered by the most vile racists and sexist personslities online and led by people like Anson Mount and Akiva Goldsman are about to wreck one of TV's longest running most beloved series.SNW will obliterate ST as we've known it on May 5 th 2022!

SNW is going to be about a depressed, troubled almost retired SF officer with a dim future, to put it mildly, riding back to heroically save humanity. Yeah! Except that ST was NEVER about a single character no matter how beroic looking. ST was ALWAYS about diverse people coming together to explore "new works and new civilizations"

Like 'TO', SNW will cut and paste the best parts previous ST series in the hopes of being recognizably Trek without having the CORE Trek mission.

Admittedly, the fans choice of Pike put the producers in a tough position.Capt Pike is the LEAST heroic SF Captain in canon. Before DSC, he was a morose, mysogynistic with what looked like a drinking problem. You see when DSC was first rumored, many fans dreamed of another yt male in the chair, like Kirk . After the first trailers suggested no yt male presence in sight, certain fans began to grumble about the absence of said yt male in the show. Immediately Jason Isaac's was hired as Captain Lorca to check that cultural box and the first three episodes were rewritten. However after Lorca was killed off at the end of DSC S1, fan complaints grew loud again.

When Captain Puke appeared in S2 of DSC his function was to literally and symbolically bridge DSC to TOS, However some fans saw a figure they couldn't let go of. It didn't matter that Pike was about to relive the most stressful, dark years of his life, he was THE hero they needed to see!

Fast forward to today and it appears the makers of the Pike show, people like Goldsman and Pike have dreamed up 'legacy' characters as a way to blow up already established ST canon. The once FAILED pilot is given a new lease on life, ironically because of a show the fans said was too modern, technologically advanced, to exist before TOS. DSC had to go! Notwithstanding those loud complaints, SNW is about to occupy that SAME place DSC once did and ALL the compliants are miraculously forgiven. Same writers, same tech, same everything but NOW FINALLY with yt male leads!!!

To accomplish this they are re-writing old characters, racasting them and dragging characters where they never belonged.. They COULD have kept Pike close to the original The Cage Pike, dark, depress wanting to quit, but clearly Tha wasn't VALIANT enough. So now they want us to believe, Pike is aware of his IMPENDING doom but is just too noble, heroic and brave to let it stop him.

To MOST people that would seem ridiculous. If the pilot on my next flight saw images of himself crippled and mute, I would hope he would allow the co-pilot land the airplane. Pike WOULD be in a PSYCHE ward not in charge of 40 0 plus lives, if he were a regular human being . That he and Spock can't see that much clear logic is in itself CANON BUSTING! There must be a dozen SF regs being broken here. To make him see his bleak, dark future yet continue merrily as he apparently does, makes Pike the biggest May Sue ST captain ever. You thought DSC featured MB too much? Get ready for super smart, super handsome, super jokey Superman Pike!!!

Possible Sci-fi sure but definitely NOTTREK!!!

You may get a different impression if you saw the full original episode The Cage, not just what was clipped out to be The Menagerie. At the end of The Cage, Pike is re-energized, even happy, and looking forward to what is to come. If he was smart, he even had some kids with Yeoman Colt!

That said, I still figure that Strange New Worlds will be a crap-fest, but for other reasons.

(And, wasn't Discovery supposed to be set 10 years before TOS? But the events of The Cage were 13 years before TOS. So that should have all happened BEFORE Pike appeared in Discovery. Not that I'm going to punish myself by watching it to find out for sure...)

STD already did that back 2017 with the release of STD's pilot episode

So, you're saying STD isn't Star Trek.

I'm almost tempted to applaud your rambling

God is O still going on with his hatred for Pike ,well seems like fans have gotten back on the Pike idea and the writers at Secret Hideout still haven't learn to creatively write without having to use the work of others because they have zero imagination and creativity it's TV making by committee again.
