Discuss Impossible Engineering

Item: Impossible Engineering

Language: en-US

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: Hi,

The 2015 series "Impossible Engineering" lists many Special, number 12 through number 36, with no information, not even a title. I believe these serve no useful purpose and should be removed. These Science Channel Specials are usually just mashups of other episodes anyway and hardly worth listing in general when that is what they are.

Thanks

If you look at the changelogs for the given episodes, such as this one, there is data entered on the French translation. More research will need to be done to determine if these specials are correct.

Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for getting back to me. As with your earlier response with my report on a "Space 1999" Special issue, I understand that my English centric approach does not take into account items added without an English translation. I will consider that when I find future such issues. I would like feedback as to whether TMDb supports the inclusion of "Specials" that are merely mashups of multiple original episodes that provide no new material. I would support exclusion of these, as they add no real value and actually tend to cause confusion about what is and is not new material. The repackaging of old material is especially common on Science Channel series.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Again Rebecca,

OK, I have done considerable research on these so-called Special episodes, based on the French titles and descriptions. Almost all of them are nothing but re-listings of episodes that already appear under the proper seasons. They are not mashups, just duplicates. They should have been entered as French translations for the existing episodes, instead of as Specials. There are two exceptions that I will address below. Here are the mappings from the so-called Specials to the appropriate seasons and episodes:

Special # Season Episode 12 2 7 13 3 1 14 3 2 15 3 3 16 3 4 17 3 5 18 3 6 19 3 7 20 3 8 21 3 9 22 3 10 23 3 11 24 3 12 27 5 1 28 5 2 29 5 3 30 5 4 31 5 5 32 5 6 33 5 7 34 5 8 35 5 9 36 5 10

You will note that Special episodes 25 and 26 are not in this list. These episodes are not listed among the TMDb regular seasons, and they should not be listed there or among the Specials. Both IMDb and The TVDb incorrectly list them as episode 7 in season 4 and episode 8 in season 4 with no air dates. I have been recording and watching all Impossible Engineering episodes for years. These two were not aired there, at least in the US. Indeed, they are not episodes of that series, but instead are episodes 3 and 1, respectively, in Season 1 of a series called "Impossible Builds". It's a completely different, very short-lived show.

I hope these can all be removed from the Specials section. They do not belong there.

Thanks

Hi again,

Unfortunately, this messaging system destroyed the tabular list I had made of the mappings by deleting a lot of spacing and new line characters. I will try a different approach here.

Special episode 12 maps to Season 2 Episode 7

Special episodes 13 - 24 map to Season 3 Episodes 1 - 12

Special episodes 27 - 36 map to Season 5 Episodes 1 - 10

Let's see if this one is readable.

Thanks again

The first 11 special episodes also had wrong French translations.
