Discuss Babylon Berlin

After having watched four episodes I have given up on this. I understand that anything with BABYLON in the title is going to try and portray debauchery and sexual deviance - but why oh why do they go so overboard so that it all turns into caricature? The intrepid heroine got on my nerves as did the ridiculous bad female with the blonde hair and the black moustache - she looked utterly stupid. I was also bemused by the breaking into song at unlikely moments especially as the German lyrics did not translate into English with any sense. And what was with the crazy dancing? The whole plot line was slow and confusing and utterly boring and there were so many pointless scenes in it that didn't lead anywhere. I think I will stick to my Danish and Swedish dramas - they do them so much better !!

Well this just goes to show that tastes, like people, vary greatly. I love this show. I enjoyed the club scenes at the nightclub/whorehouse. The "flapper" style dancing was popular back in those days and it's interesting to see it reproduced here. There are several story arcs, seemingly disparate in the first episodes, with odd connections to each other, gradually revealed as the story progresses. I love watching Liv Lisa Fries who plays Charlotte.
