They should rename it "24: CLICHE" Terrible reused stories like "Who's the mole?" Presidential campaigns plagued by traitors. Beyond silly plot lines, like a police station housing FOUR+ MILLION dollars in cash. And let's not even talk about the nickel and dime dialog, as well as the HORRIBLE acting by Jimmy Smits, who looks like he's mailing it in. And I don't mind diversity. But this feels more like a soap opera. Issac, the drug dealer who is really a 'good guy'. The shoe-horned gay story, which couldn't be more forced if they tried. If I were gay, I'd be offended at how clumsily they forced that into the story. The 'persecuted Muslim' story. The evil corporate guy who's company buys oil form ISIS or ISIL, or whatever you like to call them. The Asian American guy high up in the campaign. The Latino Senator/Presidential Candidate. The woman who is the only one who REALLY knows what's up at CTU. Christ, the only thing missing is an American Indian in a tee-pee.
Throw it all together like a salad, and dress it up with a poor retread story, and you have the least interesting and silly incarnation of "24" ever.

So let's see you coming up with a better plot. No moles/traitors. No evil corporate guys. No minorities. Go.

That's a cop out. I'm the consumer. I don't have to come up with a better plot. It's THEIR job to come up with something new. But to keep playing the same ol' plots over and over until they've been driven into the ground? Well, expect some detractors.

Again, I'm the consumer. They are making this for US to watch. If we don't like it, it's up to US to say why. Not for us to re-write the show for them.

Cop out is to complain without being constructive. It's not a rehash to bring in the ghetto.

Anyone can complain "X sucks!" about anything. Well great, that's useful. The solution would be to watch something you like.

To be honest, 24 kind of became a cliche of itself towards the end of the original run.

I love people that think

1) These boards are for praise and adulation only

2) If you complain you must do the writers job for them and re-write the script with your own ideas

In one fell swoop, Aimc has made all criticism moot. In his/her own small mind.

Take your own advice BIG MOUTH - and go to a thread you like. Because clearly you don't like this one.

Or here's an idea - tell me beyond 'setting it in the ghetto' what is so brilliant about this version of 24.

Because you address ZERO of my issues with this concoction of 24. And I listed a litany of issues. But hey, don't follow your own advice.

lol I did take my own advice, I didn't just cry about your whining. You should put yourself out of your own misery.

You know the one thing you haven't talked about here is 24. Go figure.

Where is Tony?

Good question. I was hoping he'd be playing more of a central role. My bet is that we find out it's actually HIM that is behind the terrorists.

True. They've been beating that "Mole" story line into the ground for years. And if it wasn't an actual mole, it was someone from CTU or on the inside that got 'coerced'. Which I'm sure happens. But coercion is something that usually happens over a long period of time. In the world of 24, since it's limited to just one day of action, the coercion starts and ends in a matter of 2 hours. Once? Okay. Over and over? Please.

Don't get me wrong. I love the format of 24. But it just seems really lazy today. If they wanted to do something NEW, then they should have come up with some NEW plot lines. Other than the 'drug dealer' aspect - which that one poster is in love with, and that so far has NOTHING to do with terrorists, this is a 'greatest hits' plot. That, and I really think Jimmy Smits is mailing in his performance. But that entire "Presidential Candidate" story is just yet ANOTHER re-tread of what we've seen OVER AND OVER again from 24. Boring.

24 always had those cliches but I would say in the first 5 seasons they felt original and, most importantly, I feel the casting was better in earlier seasons. Not to say that there wasn't great casting in later series, but they were fewer. Sometimes a better actor can sell cliche better.

When Jack did something over the top or ridiculous he had the acting tenacity to make it look cool. When Corey does it it comes off as forced. Jimmy Smits is very okay. The Huma Abedeen character is definitely forced.

I would say the writing has been more left wing; whereas, the earlier seasons were more of a right wing approach. Same with Homeland which has a more progressive point of view in the recent season (same writers too).

Which is common in Hollywood, but it takes the edge away from a show that broke boundaries and crossed lines in its prime.

I don't mind the cliches as long as they are done in an effective or surprising way. Day 7 was full of cliches but it's my favorite season. I don't remember all the details, but I'm currently rewatching the whole series because I got a friend into it.

One thing I do like is they are showing "good" Muslims as well so it doesn't seem like a right-wring propaganda show. But they are still getting some backlash from the SJW types calling it islamaphobic.

The highschool girl and teacher plot does seem original, I don't think they ever had a teen involved or planning an attack, and so conflicted about it. But I could be forgetting.

After watching 9 seasons of this franchise though you do start to find certain archetypes mundane. Many of the CTU staff at this point are so basic. I don't see there being a Chloe or even a Tony in 24: Legacy (well besides the actual Tony) but we'll see.

i gave it a try but it's just bad. i don't like the story. every week they are outsmarted by the bad guys and do crazy things to try and catch them. the only ones i like are his wife and brother. i liked the girlfriend too. i never watched 24 so i'm not comparing it to that show.

I think this is fine but the original 24 is far superior. I wouldn't judge it based on this series. I find this perfectly fine and acceptable but it's just no comparison, the main draw for me is the return of fan-favorite character Tony Almeida other than that only thing that sets it apart from any other crime procedural type of show is the clock and split screens.
