Discuss 13 Reasons Why

I think she was. Most of the stuff that happened to her was either regular high school crap or stuff she brought on herself. For example, people become friends and then drift apart all the time as teenagers. I know because I am one. High school is one stupid drama after another. Also, the rape stuff that happened was either due to underage intoxication or sheer stupidity. Girls, I have news for you: Boys are ridiculously horny ALL THE TIME! If you want to avoid bad situations, don't get blasted at parties, especially if you tend to hang around a bunch of immature dudes who you don't trust. It's a recipe for disaster. So Hannah goes to a party, gets drunk and fails to come to the aid of a another drunk girl. She basically watcher her get raped. Then, as if that wasn't stupid enough, a few days later she walks to the rapist's house, strips to her bra and panties and hops into his hot tub!! OMG! He's a rapist, you dunderhead! So what happens? She gets raped of course. What a stupid girl. Then she goes to the school counselor and expects him to read her mind. She won't name the boy, she doesn't say she was raped. It's a mess! She is too young to drink. There are drinking laws for a reason. It's because teenagers are moronic as hell SOBER. Do they think they will get smarter when blasted on booze?!? Wow. I don't even know what the message of this show was. I was liking it for a while but it got so stupid and annoying by the end.

This was a very useful piece of information, I will pass it on to my daughter who was bullied. And raped. She should have known better.

Was your daughter in a drunken stupor when she was raped?

None of your business, I'm not discussing that with you.

I suggest you refrain from discussing this topic all together because, maybe you don't see it, but your reasoning is really diminishing towards young women who are victims of sexual assault. You can't say things like "rape stuff" and brush it off with "boys being horny". Why are you trying to trivialize one of the most disturbing and common crimes we have in society today?

Come back when you've got a psychology degree and we'll talk.

If your daughter didn't drink herself into oblivion prior to her unfortunate rape, then I don't understand why "she should have known better" as you so callously stated in your insensitive response. Shameful. Your daughter deserves a better parent.

And you clearly don't understand sarcasm. Why would I contradict myself.

This is the kind of parent I am. She was only 13 years old at the time. He was acquitted from the rape charge and only got community service for sex with a minor because of witnesses leaving false evidence (they were afraid of him). Six months later I got justice for my daughter myself. I consider the matter resolved and I don't feel bad about it. It's been five years now and life goes on, as it should.

Now I'm gonna have a nice cup of tea and watch another episode of Orphan Black, have a nice day :)

You mention you're a teenager so your stupidity, insensitivity, and ignorance, may be mildly excused. Mildly. But honey I have news for you, boys may be as you put it "ridiculously horny ALL THE TIME" but that doesn't dissolve them of responsibility for their actions. Many and most boys, horny as they may be, do not rape people. Shocking, I know! The male species actually does indeed have the capability of controlling themselves. If a person physically violates another human being it is on the horrible person who committed the crime, not the victim. Ever. I hope you never have to experience such a terrible act against you, but I hope if that happens you are met with more compassion and empathy than you are personally capable of.

Read my original post again. I was talking about Hannah from the TV show 13 Reasons Why. I'm not talking about a little girl , 5 years younger or 10 years younger who is the victim of child sexual abuse. Why do people conflate things? This is so evil and disingenuous. You know I'm not talking about an innocent child. I'm talking about a person who is basically a grown adult, a person with sexuality and desires, who actively pursues sexual encounters with boys or men who **drinks themselves into a blind stupor **and then blames society if something bad happens because of it.

Wow. People are nuts.

Yes us boys are horny all the time. Just because a girl is too drunk it gives us no right to have sex with them. Anyone that does that is absolutely weak and pathetic.

If someone leaves a shop open with no staff does that make it fine for me to steal something? Or someone leaves their car open with the keys in ignition is it fine to drive it away?

I agree no one should get too intoxicated as it leaves them vulnerable to many things (not just rape). Just like leaving your keys in the car or leaving your shop empty can be considered stupid, clumsy or "insert word". It doesn't give anyone the right to take advantage.

I never said that getting drunk gives dudes a permission to rape. I said getting blasted at a party loaded with immature boys increases the odds of getting raped. If you want to lower your chances of getting raped to near zero, don't get blasted.

Get it?

I totally agree with you here. I liked the show, and watched all the episodes, but by the end, I was annoyed with the Hannah character. Yeah, we are supposed to feel sympathetic to her because she was raped and taken advantage of by other people. It's terrible, but at some point, you have to take responsibility for your own choices or actions. It's nobody else's fault that she lost the money, that she decided to get drunk with that other girl at her house, or made a dumb choice to go to that party when she knew the guy was a rapist scumbag in the first place. Hard for me to feel sorry for a person who puts themself in a bad position, then gets mad when stuff takes a turn for the worst.

Also, I feel posters are missing your point. I don't think anybody is justifying rape and blaming the victim for being raped. However, you have to take responsibility for your actions if you are of a certain age. You can't get drunk, and be mad that you are drunk and unable to make wise choices. You chose to get intoxicated, and knew your judgment would be impaired. That doesn't mean someone SHOULD take advantage of you. It means you're just not practicing responsible behavior which would avoid that scenario altogether most times.

I agree. Hannah deserved stricter parents with curfews and shit. Getting blasted at a party 10 lashes, not helping your friend in need 20 lashes, not reporting a broken sign which resulted in a car accident 30 lashes! All in all, she deserved some good parental scourging.

40 lashes on her mediocre ass because it wasn't the "best ass" at all. I know it wasn't her fault the rumor got started but still, she kinda went along with it.

Hope the original poster is gone for good what an ignorant piece of shit

It seems nobody is seeing the bigger picture. Hannah just wanted friends and wanted people to like her. Yes, in season one, she knew Bryce was a rapist. Yes, she made a mistake stripping down and getting in the hot tub with him. But that doesn't mean she deserved to be raped. That doesn't mean she asked for it. Just because she stripped down to her bra and panties that didn't mean she consented.

Didn't deserve it, nonetheless it's tough to by the show's message of "It's On All of Us" when Hannah herself was so thoughtless. Not saying that Bryce isn't a vomitbag who ought to spend the rest of his life in prison, because he is, nonetheless let's not absolve Hannah of her role in all of this

It's like any white guy going into ghetto district at 2.00AM and not expecting to get robbed or jumped. And then say things like: "It's all the robbers' fault! I'm a special snowflake guy and I didn't deserve this!!!". F*cking bollocks...
