Discuss 13 Reasons Why

Does anyone think this series has any chance of getting some Emmy or Golden Globe nominations?

I think it has a shot at getting nominated by the Golden Globes. They tend to be less traditional in their picks and like to nominate first year series that stood out in some way. The Emmys though seem less likely, but you never know.

Man....i'm not sure. Depends on how the backlash goes on in the next few weeks, and the time leading up to awards. Movie/film/ TV critics seem to receive the show really well overall, and audiences really love it. But the whole controversy on whether or not showing a graphic suicide scene will hurt its chances. Along with the fact that it doesnt exactly have a politically correct main character with Hannah Baker. The show goes for that morally grey, honest approach which i love but it doesnt go over well with everyone.

I think it will at least get some attention due to the popularity now, as well as some strong supporters, but i dont see it winning the big awards. Then again, the message is so relevant that if the backlash subsides, and turns into positive support the show could be a shoe in. It all comes down to how the media paints the show.

What backlash? I haven't heard anything about a backlash? Granted I don't watch much news or entertainment news. Care to explain?

Oh just google 13 Reasons Why and you can see a ton haha! Mostly targeted towards the treatment of the suicide scene, and how it can cause more harm than good by triggering people. Here i'll link you to one

I think a lot of these articles are click bait. It's always easy to rein people in by slagging off a popular show.

Who gives a shit if these so-called experts think it causes more harm than good. Obama's America is pussy America. The suicide scene is brutal, it needed to be shown. I think Hannah would have screamed a bit more and been more upset as the blood flows but I am sure everyone who commits suicide does it in a different way.

I completely agree with you, and i'm honestly pissed off because a lot of these articles feel click baity. The only legit criticism i understand is showing the suicide scene. However i would also argue it needed to be ugly and brutal, and not romanticized as a peaceful way out. Plus, the show already gives so MANY warnings before anything traumatic happens.

Yeah I don't think there is a backlash about the show. Everyone is talking about how good the show is and that's all I've seen. I think you're over putting too much stock into internet news articles. Like someone else said they're probably more click bait than anything.
