I had a feeling that season 2 newcomer Billy (played by Dacre Montgomery) would have a physical confrontation with Jonathan Byers (played by Charlie Heaton). This seems all to be confirmed in the latest trailer for Season 2, as there was a brief glimpse of a fight between the two characters.

In the director’s descriptions of the character strongly hinted that Billy would be an abusive older stepbrother to another season newcomer Max (played by Sadi Sink). This is in direct contrast to the loving relationship between Jonathan and his younger brother Will (played by Noah Schnapp). Personality wise, Billy has been described as very sociable and outgoing, yet very controlling and violent. Jonathan on the other hand seems very solitary and passive to an almost pacifist degree…unless seriously provoked. Films and other forms of fiction like to to pit mirror counterparts against one another. I foresee Stranger Things putting a mirror counterpart type conflict between Jonathan and Billy.

I think the seeds of the Jonathan-Billy fight will start by having Max bond with Will and his friends. Billy will be outraged by the fact that he is losing control of Max, due to her new friends. So he decides to vent his violent rage on Will and his friends. This eventually leads to Jonathan trying to protect his younger brother and his friends from Billy, thus leading to a violent fight.

Since the creators of Stranger Things have outright stated that Billy was modeled after Jack Nicholson’s character in the Shining, I am guessing that the Shadow Monster will drive Billy to violence. Very similar to how Nicholson’s character was driven to madness by the ghosts inhabiting the hotel.

Any thoughts on Billy?

I'm starting season 2 tonight and will make a prediction.

I day that Will will be infected again as the trailer has Joyce say maybe he wasn't cured and it had a creature around him.

So Billy may join the group to help Will. I think that he may be the one who gets them to go on the ghost busters bike ride which may help them bond.

Jonathan could get into a fight just as he did with Nancy's boyfriend who was being a jerk about his death and if the creators said they are modeling the shinning it makes sense

So far so good (I am on episode 7 on season 2), Billy is really hostile to Max's friends...especially Lucas. That part it seems that I correctly guessed. The reasons for for Billy's hostilities are unknown, but its somewhat hinted that there could be a racial motivation. But so far, he has not really joined the main cast in any particular way.

Update, I just watched all the episodes, and my predictions were mostly correct. Only it was Steve that was fighting Billy, instead of Jonathan.

I just finished season 2 and I don't understand the purpose of Max and Billy.

Max makes a little more sense because she was esssentially an outsider joining the group sort of like El a year before. This time the roles are reversed for Lucas and Mike.

I'm on ep five and enjoying it. I thought that was the purpose

From the looks of the season finale my guess for Billy is to become a key figure in the S3 fight. He’s got the anger and strength to go up against a scarier season big bad, once he sees what’s happening.

I just hope they don't have him getting into an affair with Mike's mom. Her in the bathtub listing to memories while get husband is asleep reveals she's lonely. She was checking him out and I feel they may go there.

I couldn't agree more. Man that scene seriously creeped me out. I honestly don't like the idea of a parent checking out someone (especially if they are only in high school) that are the same age as their kid. Its very disgusting and illegal. Although the scene was meant to show how desperately lonely Mike's mom was, that scene really collapsed my opinion of her. I think the writers are going to have Mike's mom sleep with Billy's mom, just so that they could have an antagonist be a closer to home threat.

His mom. It is 2017 I wouldn't be surprised. Susan seemed like a batter wife or disturbed by Neil's behavior towards Billy.

I don't think that's going to happen. Billy was obviously turning on the charm to get the info he needed; that scene also of course showed poor Karen's loneliness, married to comatose man walking Ted Wheeler - a guy who comes about as close as you can get to truly having no personality. I don't imagine they have much of a sex life. Mike and Nancy's parents getting a divorce, now that's a development I could see.

You should watch the interview series on Netflix called Beyond Stranger Thing. There’s a good possibility they’ll do the Billy and mom thing, sadly enough.

I wonder if Billy will seduce Mike's mom, in order to gain a foothold on Max's friends?

Probably he seemed like a control freak. No one bosses me around. I think they will, because he thought what his sister was doing is weird. I have a feeling they may go there.

Anything's possible. The odd thing is, when he looked at Max at the end (while she was getting ready for the dance) there was no anger in Billy's eyes. It could be that he genuinely doesn't feel any, or that in some way he respects her for standing up to him, or it could be the calm of someone who knows exactly how he's going to get even. I'm not sure why he'd sleep with Mike and Nancy's mom to punish Max though. Seems like he'd want to mess with Lucas more than any of the others. Who knows - maybe he'll make the mistake of picking on Eleven!

I am not thinking that Billy would seduce Mike's mom, to punish Max specifically. I was thinking more of him using Mike's mom to spy on Max's friends and look for opportunities to control them.
