Anna Torv plays an investigative reporter who uncovers links between a mutilated corpse of a young man, an Aussie student held by China as a political dissident after she set herself ablaze in public, a corrupt minister with secret ties to the Chinese, the Aussie intelligence service, the American government, and perhaps others.

I like Anna Torv. She is an attractive actress, and seems nice. She was good in Fringe, and she is good in Secret City.

I am only in the fourth episode now. Anna plays Harriet Dunkley . She stumbled onto secrets that threaten powerful people and interests. These people don't play around when threatened, just like in the real world. They use professional killers to shut down those who threaten them. Harriet's ex husband works for intelligence . He steals a file to help Harriet's investigation into the mutilated corpse, and is killed for it.
First though he hid the file where Harriet could find it. She asked a friend to decode the file; the signals intelligence agency detected his work and arrested him. It turns out the girl being held by the chinese, Sabine Hobb, is not really being held by the Chinese at all. She is being held somewhere in Australia, unbeknownst to the Australian Prime Minister. Who is holding her, and why? What is the connection between Sabine Hobb and the mutilated corpse of the young man? Can Harriet Dunkley investigate the connections without running afoul of the law?
