Discuss My 600-lb Life

What a case those two were. I really thought his girlfriend was his mother at first. I did wonder what did she ever see in that whiny baby, but I bet at least some of it was a way out of her abusive life with her husband. James was childless (except for the two kids they had together) and apparently made decent money with his father working as a farmer, unless someone else paid for their house and great big yard.

I knew when they started their gofundme page that wasn't going to work out and if they didn't give all the money back they would spend it on food instead. I'm sure that's why hardly no one gave them anything because they knew that's what they would do with it, like an alcoholic or drug addict starting a gofundme page to go to rehab, but likely they'd use the money for drugs and booze.

This episode was hard to watch. I hate all the gratuitous shots of the legs etc....it's exploitative and upsetting and I wish TLC would slow its roll with that kind of thing.

But beyond that, I was at a loss for words. It was just illogical. 1 + 1 = 2 and the two of them just didn't seem to get that. This guy is literally ripping apart, having heart failure, and can't walk (let alone even reach a phone to order food himself), but let's continue to give him three giant plates of food because he might whine a little otherwise....and then we have to hear him going on and on about how there's no way out, there's nothing they can do unless they are in Houston...etc. Nothing? What about the diet? What about eating less? What about not giving him a huge piece of cake and three hamburgers and six sausage patties.... And then he's convinced he's lost weight and hasn't been cheating but yet somehow gained 150 pounds. What in the heck. I mean, I know they all fudge a little and have set backs and denial and enabling, but this one was just off the charts. My brain wanted to explode. I'm very much not trying to judge other people and their struggles and all but this one just literally didn't make sense to me. I guess if the woman had been a victim of abuse before, maybe it was beyond her capability even to stand up to his mild whining when he didn't get the fried rice he wanted. I would be like, dude, if you don't check your attitude, you'll get one tiny baby carrot to eat a day. Scream all you want, but baby carrots all ya gettin then. lol. You know? He literally couldn't do anything about it, so why not? I was so confused.

I know, LOL, those two were a train wreck, and the poor daughter having to stay there. They never said what happened to James' son. I guess he ran for his life as quickly as he could.

He kept saying it was impossible to give up all of that junk food because he had eaten it for so long his body needed it now. I haven't seen all the episodes, but that was the first one where I saw Dr. Now give it to the enabler and asking her why she kept bringing him food because it isn't like he could get up, chase after her, and beat her for not bringing him food. She didn't really have an answer to that only that she didn't like to hear him whine and scream at her. I actually think she enjoyed being a caregiver, or that's all she knows, because they said she had six kids I think. Two with James and then four with her husband.

One of the things I wondered about is what insurance did they have when neither of them work. James was complaining their insurance company wouldn't pay for an ambulance to take him down to Houston. It was probably Medicaid, but I didn't think Medicaid would pay for something like that anyway.

I'm curious how this will all come out because they kept saying "He's going to die if he doesn't change his ways." Yet he never seemed too interested in changing his ways.

I agree with all of the above.

This episode was really hard to watch! TRAIN WRECK is an understatement. It's like things don't click in his head. He is one HUGE 40 something year old baby. He must have some kind of learning disability. I understand that he loves food, but what will be enough to get him under control, a medically induced coma??? I think he will die soon.

I don't even want to get started on his girlfriend. In some sick way, she seems to enjoy enabling him then complaining about it. It may be part of her abuse cycle. Who cares if he whines like Dr. Now said. Let him attempt to get up to get his own food.

James' father will drop dead one day due to the stress his grown son puts on him. I feel for his dad because he cant enjoy the last chapter of his life.

Dr. Now has the patience of a saint. I would have walked out on James and his excuses a long time ago.

I think this couple lied a lot on the show. But I also think their IQ levels were pretty low. They are arguing about fried rice because rice is on the list as if they think the egg rolls are ok.

This was the worst display of enabling I've seen on the show so far. I mostly feel bad for his dad. He took money out on his house to finance the trip and James wasted it.

Maybe, because I was completely baffled by them. The fried rice scene...he even said "It's fried!" as if that was supposed to make it healthier?! "Rice isn't on our list..." "Well it's FRIED rice!" um even worse. It was bizarre.

Maybe James was right and they need a nutritionist ....watching them every moment, spelling out exactly what to eat every meal? I've heard this story will continue next week so we'll see.

This episode really blew my mind!. From pulling their daughter out of school to care for his lazy behind. To his poor father having a stroke and then refinancing his house! all for nothing. His girlfriend obviously being emotionally abused and needing therapy from her abusive marriage. Everything was just crazy but the craziest was his rotten spoiled behavior, yelling, "Ma Legs!!!" every 15 seconds. James's attitude was trash and I cannot and I mean cannot get over him gaining 158 lbs!!. I've never seen Dr.Now go off on someone like that!. He was completely spoiled and lazy. Also the fried rice part!...my goodness. I've made multiple family members and a few of my friends watch this episode lol they all are equally horrified.

I didn't learn/read about this until today, but James died about a year ago. They didn't say from what but I can only imagine it was a number of ailments. I guess he never changed his ways.
