I love everything about this show, everything, except fucking Abby. Seriously, I'm not sure if we're supposed to like her character, or just tolerate her - but every time her scene is up, I'm just waiting for something bad to happen to her. (Waiting..hoping.. whatever.) Everyone else is aces. Especially Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is so mesmerizing as Candy, that when she's on screen, I find myself silently chanting, "please don't die, please don't die." But that Abby... sheesh.

I used to love seeing that sexy Russian minx, but her character has become SO annoying with her sullen, mopey demeanor. She never acted like she even wanted to work in the bar (to be fair - not her dream job), and all this time later she still doesn't and always seems on the verge of just quitting.

I COMPLETELY agree with you! I don't even see how the 'Abby' character moves the show along at all. The character adds nothing to the show. Her most important scene was the first episode of season 2, when we see her, her hairdo is different, signalling that we have moved from the early 70's (leftover hippy) era - to the late 70's (punk/new wave)era....so her hairdo change was actually the character in that moment LOL! And Maggie Gyllenhaal is DEFINITELY mesmerizing! She is such a pro of an actress. She really fleshes out her character well! The way she moves and talks, she reminds me of a slinky cat.

Who said you were supposed to like Abby? LOL. The characters weren't perfect, and she certainly wasn't. Abby was the prototypical noble do-gooder who in the end is failed by her idealism and naivete. However, the actress was BEAUTIFUL to look at so that made her more bearable.
