James DeLaney is indeed an awesome character. He has somehow tapped into some mysterious spiritual power from his time in Africa. He appears to be crazy to the English, and he doesn't care about that in the least. He is clever however, he knows the law well enough to protect himself legally, and he has esoteric knowledge which gives him special insights and an added advantage.
It is fun to watch him escape the dangers and plots laid against him.
James Delaney is a sadistic incestuous killer with supposedly noble motives. I can't see why the East India Company, the King regent or anyone else are worst than him.
One thing also that I didn't get is what the Taboo ( the incestuous affair that had with his sister) has to do with the main plot that is his conflict with the East India Company.
Would it change something in his dealings with the East India Company his affair with his sister? I assume not. So why the series were titled as Taboo?
He is a killer, yes. But so are the men of the East India Company, and the King's men, using the power of the state to kill any who get in the way of their greed. They seek to rob DeLaney of his rightful property by any means necessary. Some people overlook their wholesale killing because it has the fraudulent authority of the State, the King. I say fraudulent authority because even if technically legal, the laws which authorize murder in order to steal the belongings of the dead are immoral, and therefore invalid.
Their murders are based on greed. DeLaney at least usually only kills those who betray him or who seek to harm him or rob from him.

What the hell is "He makes JW look like a little girl." ? That's the kind of the thing a kid would say.

I agree, but then, all Wick can do is shoot guns. Even Denzel Washington's McCall in The Equalizer is more baddaas than Wick.
