We see in a few different episodes how competitive it seems to be to be assigned to the Enterprise, including - perhaps especially - in "Ensign Ro." But it seems that being on the Enterprise makes them better too, which is what seemed to happen with Barclay. I think it would be funny if Picard - or maybe Riker - talked up Barclay to his previous commanders. Remember, Riker thought that Barclay's previous captain may have been more or less trying to unload a problem. Would have been funny to see that captain's reaction when finding out that Barclay more or less saved the ship more than once, and perhaps even the galaxy or something.
