It seems like they should have done something with Geordi too, like have him on vacation again or something - maybe he could get captured by Romulans again! - because it doesn't seem likely that Geordi would have been affected by the game either.

Well he was plus it seems he was crucial for taking out or repairing Data.

Well it was Beverly who turned Data off, and she'd worked on him enough before to be able to disable him more permanently. And there was no indication that Geordi was needed to get Data working again. But mostly there was no indication - throughout the series -that Geordi's visor would interact with the game in the same way that eyes would. Nor that another version was made that could plug right into his head.
It just wouldn't have been difficult to have him be somewhere else for a little while.
Or just make HIM the hero instead of Wesley.

Yeah recently saw the episode and I was asking myself the question whether Geordi would see anything at all of the game plus wouldn't the visor pick up the strange emissions from the game since his visor is able to pick up signals from a broad spectrum of EM signals. He would probably the first person to pick up the strange things the device is doing to the human brain.

Right, I thought of that too, which is reason enough for him to be the hero instead of Wesley. Unless they had some kind of contractual obligation to have Wil Wheaton appear. But they could have still had him in the episode, and just make him one of those Geordi has to overcome.

Yeah some story line where they could have taken out Laforge and where Wesley and Lefler save him and team up so he can repair Data or something like that.
