Discuss Star Trek: The Next Generation

The writers have another opportunity to get rid of Wesley, but they blow it.

I would describe this episode as "affable." It isn't particularly exciting and there is no real danger to the ship or any of its crew, but it is comfortable and reasonably pleasant. Each of the regulars gets a chance to demonstrate his or her loyalty to Picard. Wesley meets a girl his own age. He is appropriately awkward and clueless.

Ooooh. Yeah. I almost forget. One of the one-shot characters is in mortal danger and Picard talks him into a nifty life saving maneuver. This felt tacked on, but it did give our captain a chance to demonstrate his skill and ability to think under fire. I was a bit miffed that the youngster was too far away to transport. WTF? They transport people to and from planet surfaces all the time, which seems further away than this little runaway ship. Maybe it was on the other side of the planet? I don't know.

It was a "nice" episode. ("Nice" is a word that a woman uses when she wants to say something complimentary, but "sexy", "good-looking", "charming", "hot", "dreamy" etc. just don't apply.)

The shuttle had just left the ship, how could it already be on the other side of the planet? Plus they seemed to be watching events on the view-screen, which couldn't happen if the planet was in the way.

It was, as usual, Because Plot.

The kid was a punk. If I was Picard, I would have made him pick up Wesley and given him coordinates for a course into the nearest star.

The kid was one of the most annoying character of the entire TNG series even worse than Wesley (if that is even possible) plus he is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.
