I moved this discussion to the official page.

Cheers.

Well, I gave it the max, best show this year IMO! I think it will earn the Emmy for best show for sure. Main reason I'm keeping Netflix at this point... I wouldn't mind a spin off either about the de-throwned King and his Mrs. Simpson. There have been lots done on their beginnings but not much till this show on their life after they married.

HoneyWest, that's an interesting idea. I've read a bit about Wallis Simpson and Edward and find them interesting. I'd watch a series about them. And yes, The Crown was great. Can't wait for the next season. I imagine they'll keep us waiting for it a while. Worth the wait, though.

I'm pretty sure they have started filming it already! I follow the actress who plays Princess Margaret on Instagram and she has posted pics from the set. crown

I´m convinced next season will be worth the wait. Remarkably well done series, much more serious than any period soap, and much much more gripping. I knew nothing about Claire Foy, and am impressed by the woman in every episode.

I agree, she is also excellent in Wolf Hall playing Anne Boleyn and the re-boot of Upstairs Downstairs...both worth watching, esp Wolf Hall! smile_cat

Thank you! I will certainly look for it. Great cast: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf_Hall_(miniseries) If a historical drama is well made and at least stay truthful to important events that really happened, and give a truthful picture of real people involved, I love it! That´s why The Gathering Storm - about Churchill just before WW2 - is one of my favorite lesser known movies.

I just checked and it's available to stream via Amazon free if you have Prime... http://amzn.to/2lYyxB7

I don´t, but I can start a 30-day free trial. That´s a smart move. Pick series and movies from Amazon that´s not everyday stuff on Netflix, and try Prime. Oh goodie!

Pinjetre ... I thought of the 30 day free trial thing too. I think I'll probably give it a try if only to watch Wolf Hall. It has a wonderful cast, I especially like Damien Lewis and think he'd be pretty impressive as Henry VIII.

HoneyWest ... I assume you've seen the redone Upstairs Downstairs? I haven't, but was a huge fan of the original. Have you seen that one?

Karen, I´ve seen both Upstairs Downstairs, and the original was lovely. I also watched some episodes of the re-boot, and it really was entertainment for a cozy night with my cat in the lap. Watching The Crown I didn´t recognize Claire Foy from UD re-boot since I saw very few scenes with her character. But how strange - watching Foy in The Crown episode 2, I thought she reminded me of actress Keeley Hawes - and Hawes does play the older sister of Foy in UD re-boot.

Totally worth the free trial for just that, but there are also some good movies and other shows you can watch too! Damian Lewis is good but he is not on screen as much as you may imagine... just a heads up on that. It is really all about Cromwell.

And yes I've seen both U/D incarnations... the first is just so wonderful, despite the low production values... I watched it all one hot summer on DVD a few years ago. The re-boot is great looking but the only thing in common with the original is the house and the brief (if I remember correctly) appearance of Jean Marsh. She plays the same character but many years later and now she runs an employment agency for servants... I kind of wanted there to be a family connection... the grand children or something but despite that, I enjoyed it for what it is. It also has all the high production values the newer shows have.

Not available in Canada :-(

I just finished watching Season 2. While I think the writing has drifted too much in the direction of soap opera at times, especially compared to the early episodes of Season 1 when Churchill was the PM, I nevertheless have continued to enjoy the show A LOT. Surprisingly, even my husband is watching too, and he rarely tunes in to period drama. Except for all of the innuendos about Prince Philip being a chronic philanderer, the many historical references (which we particularly love and never get enough of) have been pretty accurate from what I can tell.

Bottom line: Bravo! Well done!
