Who was that monster on Ganymede , protomolecule? more importantly why is gunny ordered not to mention the monster?
Could it be Mars is the new benefactor that Jules-Pierre Mao found to develop the protomolecule?

I thought it might be proto-Miller, that somehow he survived the crash into Venus.
I am not sure if Earth had sent their scientist to Venus yet. This attack on Ganymede doesn't make much sense.

There's a secret research facility on Ganymede also controlled/sponsored by Jules-Pierre Mao and with the sole purpose of weaponizing the protomolecule. So, they were successful in creating Protomolecule supersoldiers. One of them got loose somehow and attacked UN and MCRN soldiers.

Because, plot armor?
The Monster is embedded with explosive failsafe which detonates seconds before it tears Gunny apart, but we didn't see it happen on screen unlike in the books, so there might be minor changes.
