Well, I guess it's because at the same time it doesn't have seasons (it's a continuous cour, as you can see on Crunchyroll), every other Dragon Ball series on TMDb has been split in sagas. So, some users think it's better to follow Crunchyroll's format, others prefer the older Dragon Balls format.

There are lots of conversations regarding how Japanese anime should be listed on the site. The major consensus is that they all belong to 1 season and just increase the episode number.

No, that's not true yet. It's still a very much work in progress. That's why I won't delete any version of them yet. It just saves us trouble of adding it again when we delete one of the other, and the other way will be chosen.
For now, I'll live with the duplicates.. And I also don't know much about the series itself - except that it's a difficult one to manage.

Even if I'd delete all other seasons and lock the first one, someone would eventually come around and re-add them.

"the other way will be chosen" means which way? One season many episodes?

I'm saying like, if I delete the episodes in season 1 that are also in other seasons, it'll probably be all episodes in one season that'll be the way to work.
Or if I delete all the seasons, it gets decided that we rather have them in the seasons D:
That's why I'm reluctant to get to the long running/many "arcs" animes like one piece, dragon ball etc. Too much inconsistensy, and no clear rules how to handle it all yet. But I believe - from that thread - that Travis is working on something.

haha, I understand. The issue would be getting someone like me to get the info transferred from the many seasons over to the one season. If you get Dragon Ball Super I'll help you out on the weekends. If I had one solid Saturday I could probably do a few seasons.
