Discuss Supergirl

Wow. I mean, I literally started getting sick to my stomach while Kara was continually getting pounded and beaten to a pulp by Reign. When she was laying there on the sidewalk completed broken, I felt like I was the one who got socked in the gut. It was difficult to watch. The bad guy squarely defeated the good guy. Aside from the fact it was utterly stupid that Mon-El did nothing, J'onn J'onzz did nothing, and James was just standing there instead of summoning Superman with the simple press of a button, the fight was exceptionally written, directed, and acted. I felt like I was standing right there with the people looking down at Supergirl, broken and defeated...her costume and symbol of hope literally in ruins...full of fear that the person who protects the city is dying right there. Wow!

No doubt the writers had the Broken Bat story from Knightfall on their minds. The parallels were all over the place. As chilling as it was reading that story --"But this time is different"--so was watching this.

I agree. It was a very good fight scene and it was emotionally powerful. It actually was not as one sided as I thought it would be and that made it even better.

I also agree that it was absurd that the DEO did not even try to give her any backup. They used to always work as a team but not last night (wtf).

The fight scene was too much for me because Reign beat her beyond recognition. When she stood back to her feet, I was like, "Just stay down, Kara. I can't take any more of this." It was easier to watch Barry go through this kind of butt whooping than Kara.

I agree. She's a TV character but I was aching for her. When she said, "I'm not afraid of you" I was like, "well you should be!" That's like when Bane demanded Batman scream his name and Batman whispered, "Go back to hell." Really? That's just asking for it. I honestly thought Reign was going to take her and break her back. Even thinking about it now I just feel so bad. The good guy is just never supposed to lose...not like that. But when it happens, you almost can't believe it. It also reminds me of how Apollo Creed died. Here, both Bane and Reign could have killed them, but left them barely alive so they were forced to survive in shame.

That's interesting. You were expecting Reign to beat her up earlier than that?

Yes, I expected it to be something lame like Supergirl's punches would just bounce off of her or something. Or SG wouldn't land a single punch, but instead there was a lot of back and forth and Reign ended up beating her down with weapons and a flaming car door and then hitting her with heat vision until Supergirl couldn't take anymore.

It's ironic that the fight turned in Reign's favor when Supergirl took her focus off of the battle just for a second to tell that little girl and the people to step back. That's when Reign wacked her from behind. It reminds me of when Barry was telling Ralph the first priority is helping the people and second is to catch the bad guy. Although in this case, even though Supergirl was protecting the people, the result is she won't be doing that again for a while.

I’m confused. How did the hit to the head make Supergirl bleed? Is reign made of kryptonite?

I wondered the same thing, but have since learned there is canon history of Kryptonians being able to cut and make other Kryptonians bleed. It doesn't happen very often, which is good because when it does happen on those rare occasions, there is definitely shock value with it.
