The first two episodes were downers...I didn't like much about them. But this episode was great. It reminded me of Season 1. The two storylines were entertaining and there was good character development for both J'onn and Maggie. I don't think "Kara Danvers" was actually in this episode--the chat in the beginning with Alex was her as Kara Zor-El, right?--I'm hoping when we do see her out there in the world again she's not the twit she was in the first two episodes. I think she has turned the corner.
I was very much hoping there was not going to be some evil twist at the end, or that J'onn's father died. Everything was at face value and I had a nice feeling when the episode ended. Imagine that for a change. It's good to have that once in a while. Twists and cliffhangers seem to be more the rule than the exception these days, unfortunately, so this was nice.

I only wish Melissa Benoist was in the show a lot more. It seems like she's almost become a side character in her own show. The show has more of a Justice League group feel to it, than a Supergirl show which happens to have some supporting characters who get some screen time but not at the expense of what's supposed to be the main character.

Hmmmm. I never considered that. I need to think about this.

I like the Martian adventure part of this episode. I could really do without the Maggie and Alex soap opera part.

They just had to make time to force the Alex and Maggie plot in there. Other than that, it was a great episode. I know it was for budgetary reasons but from a story perspective, why are all the Martians in human form anyway?

Other than budget, it's probably because it'd look ridiculous for a bunch of martians to be talking to each other looking nothing like human beings, especially when conveying human emotions like love, loss, etc.
