There was a lot of potential with Teri Hatcher and Kevin Sorbo and all the Daxom storyline. Not to mention, the setup for the crossover. But it took a backseat to the boring Winn / Lyra romance. Even Supergirl almost felt like a supporting character this week for most of it.

Supergirl has felt like a supporting character the entire season, especially now with Karamel monopolizing everything. It's like it's not even her show anymore.
The writers should be shot out of a cannon!

Personally, I think the producers are giving more time to Winn because he’s a fan favorite. He should actually be the second person on the marquee because he’s getting all the perks of that position: plots surrounding his character, relationships, emotional scenes, and humanization. There’s absolutely no characterization when it comes to James Olsen, and I mean none at all. This is indicative of the token black character, but since he’s the second person on the marquee, I originally thought he would fare better than the typical token character. An alien could shoot James in the head, and the majority of people wouldn’t feel anything. I think the producers purposely said they wouldn’t characterize James Olsen because of the Internet backlash. Some of the message boards on him were racially charged and downright hostile. When Superman landed in National City, I saw a huge problem: he stole Kara’s thunder. In addition, Kara has demonstrated some flaws in her character. For example, she said that all the Guardian was good for was picking up her leftovers. She was being braggadocios and overbearing. In addition, she didn’t have any empathy for the Guardian when she made a statement like that, and I found that to be troublesome, especially when the Guardian has shown to be a force for good in National City. Again, I don’t know who’s writing Supergirl, but the episode where Snapper emasculated James in front of the CATCO’s staff was an extremely disturbing moment. It took me out of the show, and all I could feel was disgust. I didn’t even finish the show that day because of that. In addition, he’s the titular CEO of CATCO, but Snapper appears to be the one with all the say so. Only a bunch of insane people would write a show like this. Taking the setting from CATCO to the DEO was stupid because it took Kara out of the family atmosphere that she had. She’s supposed to be living her life as Kara Danvers, and balancing that life with her secret identity. She’s not supposed to be Supergirl, and trying to balance that life with being Kara Danvers.
