I don’t think Alex’s and Maggie’s relationship can last for too long because of Alex; she has an anger streak that will eventually wreck their relationship, and when the pressure gets to her, she drowns herself in alcohol; but I have to be honest, I don’t think that is the crux of the problem. There’s something going on with Alex, and her true feelings toward Maggie on things like Valentine’s Day. In episode 2 X 13, Maggie said, “I knew we were right for each other, Danvers.” Alex was drinking her coffee, and she had a look of worry on her face. It was an ominous look, in my opinion, indicating an uneasy road ahead for this couple because Danvers knows they sit on opposite ends of the spectrum on Valentine’s Day. Alex is all about the holiday, and she enjoys celebrating it. Maggie, on the other hand, has too many family issues, and might feel compelled to stand apart from Alex when it comes to celebrating the holidays. Could holidays and other family oriented gatherings cause issues with their relationship? Maggie’s parents weren’t supportive of her lifestyle, and I believe that might cause issues down the road. Two major themes that Alex emphasizes are family values and loyalty. She gives family the benefit of doubt. We’ve seen her loyalty shine through on several occasions, but I will only discuss one: the killing of Alura. Jon is like her adoptive father, and she immediately took action when Alura put his life in danger by killing her. She ran her through with that Kryptonite blade, and didn’t think twice about it. When Mon-El tried to coyly undermine Jeremiah’s reason for suddenly showing up on the scene, Alex went off on him. In addition, she went off on Kara over this issue too, and completely became unhinged over the thought of her father being a traitor. When she had an opportunity to stop her father, she gave him the benefit of doubt. She thought there has to be a bigger picture. In my opinion, I think Maggie’s lack of family commitment might be a problem for Alex down the road.
