Discuss Marvel's Luke Cage

Better than season 1. Except for a couple of really off episodes late in the season, the rest was solid with a great and interesting main villain. The show's ending makes me wonder what will happen in season 3. My only major gripe was that all the time the season spent in Queens I didn't see a single mention of Spider-Man (though it's possible I missed it).

I wasn't impressed. No explanation of how Luke got out of jail. Claire just leaves and doesn't make another appearance. Apparently Mariah's daughter will be the villain if there is another season. No real villain in Bushmaster because he just ups and leaves after Mariah goes to jail. All fell flat for me.....

I have seen the seven first episodes, am not too impressed. It just goes so slow. It feels like everyone is talking at 80% of their normal speed, every scene is slowed down by people posing and staring and not doing anything. And all the slow music doesn't help.

Luke getting out of jail was something that occurred during The Defenders. Foggy Nelson got him exonerated as Diamond Back was proven guilty of the crime Luke was initially charged with (as for Luke breaking out of prison, that jail time was reduced to time served). They also mention that he was exonerated several times in Luke Cage. Claire returns at the end, but Luke sends her away. As for Bushmaster, with Mariah dead he had no reason to return.

Yes, Claire was MENTIONED in the last episode but she didn't appear. Bushmaster left BEFORE Tilda killed Mariah in jail.

He left because he was dying (during the final episode) after helping Luke capture Mariah (and still tried to kill her regardless). Before he left he still influenced Tilda to kill Mariah for him, and when Mariah died he had no reason to return (hence why his cousin met with Luke instead at the end). You act like these are events that happens earlier in the series, and not the final 2 episodes when they actually occurred.

Nah, I'm on episode 11 now and I am only hanging on to because there are so few episodes left. I really dislike this show. It is just so slow and depressing. No joy or fun. No likable characters. Everyone is either doing a bad-ass pose or yelling at each other.

The episode with Iron Fist was the best in this season. He brought some fun into the show.

LOL, so true about Iron Fist. If only his own introductory season was as good as he was here. He didn't whine, not even once, LOL!

Iron Fist 2 will have to be better now that the hack Scott Buck is out of the picture.

Generally I agree with you. Except I loved the blues guitar segments. This season featured some fantastic blues guitar work. That kid Kingfish Ingram is amazing. And Gary Clark Jr. is another great blues player. Stephen Marley was in another episode, and several other good performances by other artists added to the club scenes. Great music.

Luke was released from jail in the beginning of Defenders.

It was way too slow. To me, it dragged immensly. Could have benefited from either cutting the epsiodes down to 40-45 minutes, or just do 8-10 episodes. There were a couple of dialogue scenes that went on for minutes, just cutting back and forth between two characters. Same with the musical segments. Sweet x-mas...

Man my sentiments also.....Misty's voice is soooooooooo damn annoying and I can NOT stand Alfred Woodard. Don't know hows shes made it as an actress.

Pretty much what I thought too. With the exception of the music, one of the shows saving graces.

Season 2 got great reviews with critics claiming it to be a big improvement on season 1. But I found it to be more plodding and eventless than season 1. The first half of season 1 was pretty damn good. Until the excellent Cottonmouth was killed.

Season 2 only really got interesting when Luke went all Vic Mackey in the last episode. So I do think they've set things up for a potentially interesting season 3 with a political and morally grey version of a super hero.

But yeah, all these Marvel Netflix shows need to be cut down to around 8 episodes (with the exception of Daredevil, the only show that has enough substance, depth and action to warrant 13 episodes). They rely on so much filler and Luke Cage is the worst offender. It's mainly gangsters having drawn out conversations about nothing. And we're not talking The Shield or The Wire level of gang politics here.

I don't understand why they insist on 13 episodes as it's a streaming show. They don't have a tv network schedule to fill up.

I am curious. Does anyone know if Mariah, Tilda and Bushmaster are in the comics? Or are they made up for the show?

Yeah, I really did enjoy that episode with Cage and Rand teaming up together. It made me want to go and watch that animated Avengers show when they were teaming up to catch Ant-Man. "I told you to never call me 'Power Man', Danny!"
