Discuti The Man in the High Castle

I liked season 1 for sure, season 2 kind of meandered and didn't really know where it was going or what it was (though I still enjoyed it for the most part).

Season 3 was like "oooh no, we're leaning into the sci-fi and evil nazi science angle" and it was wonderful.

Throughout this show I could never figure how the resistance was ever going to beat the Nazis. They have effectively taken over the world and most of the conquered Americans have assimilated. But then in season 3 they expertly start sowing the seeds that could lead to their downfall. I was surprised at how unsettling the destruction of the American history scenes were, especially the destruction of Lady Liberty. If anything is going to piss off Americans it's the destruction of historical artifacts.

Also Smith's story with his wife rebelling because she's afraid her children are going to be put to death was also great. It makes me wonder if at some point Smith is going to turncoat. It would be better if he didn't because he's such a good villain but there's room there.

Was also glad to see Juliana off you know who. The way she looked as she watched you know who die, as if she were a wild animal watching the life drain out of her prey, that was her coolest moment in the entire series.

I hope the show gets at least 3 more seasons.

While I still think this show is engaging, the further is grows from the source material the less interesting it gets. Sure there is a market for space nazi stories, but this is getting awfully close to Sliders territory. And that show only worked in the early series because of its sense of humour.

Sometimes the unexplained is more satisfying than an explanation, particularly if the explanation is neither original or intelligent. The producer of this show, Ridley Scott, has form in this regard, when he took a 30 year mystery of the space jockey in Alien and delivered us Prometheus.

I admit I haven't read the book but I did read the synopsis and and it seemed pretty cut and dry. I fully understand the show having to change things for an ongoing story format and I like the way they have decided to go so far. As I said in my original post, the second season felt kind of aimless but this season has made a firm decision what direction it's headed in and I am fully onboard.

Instead of Sliders I would compare it more to Fringe (Season 3). But they establish if your counterpart is alive in the parallel universe you can't travel to it so there won't be some full scale invasion by the Nazis, which means they will have to come up with a more inventive plot. Again, this new direction opens up a whole host of possibilities and the more sci-fi it gets the more I think I am going to like it. Just my opinion.

I really don't get the invasion of other dimensions thing. These guys don't care what happens in the neutral zone or north Asia but they want to invade the neighbouring dimension? That's truly preposterous. I also don't get the Year Zero thing. If you wanted to erase history, making documentaries and TV broadcasts about doing that seems counter productive.

That Smith wants to go to the other world, and this now seems to mean he must kill his counterpart, seems sort of obvious so far as what direction S4 will take. This would be cartoon villain stuff imo.

And yes, Fringe is a good comparison as well. But as with Sliders, it works when there is humour and an glancing wink at the audience that it is all a bit silly. I doubt there is a way of getting that sort of tone into MITHC.

As I say, I am still engaged with the show, but they are pushing the limits now.
