They could cell phone records, but not cell tower information

They could've easily got the tower information and seen that Kevin was lying. Modern cells phone constantly grabs data from towers do to background updates and notifications. Heck their cars GPS units would've instantly told on all of them. Repomen have access to all of this , but not a modern police department ?
