At the end of series 2, when Alison realises that her son Daryl is the serial killer, she proposes to flee. And she let Daryl fantasize about where he would like to go. At that moment, I got an eerie feeling and flashback: Of Mice And Men. When George reassures his simple but lethal strong brother Lennie to picture a bright future on a farm they are gonna buy where Lenny can take care of the rabbits. And than BLAM. He shoots his brother. Preventing him from doing more harm and saving him from a terrible time in prison. And of course, the same fate happened to Daryl.

Interesting thought. Unfortunately, my memory is %$#^ so I'll have to do a re-watch and get back to you. Good opening post, tho! Hope someone comes in sooner to do it justice.

The similarities hadn't occurred to me, Double, but reading your post, I do totally agree with you.
That certainly is a powerful section of the episode, when we see Alison's quiet rapidly-building realization of what she needs to do, and how lovingly and sensitively she "puts down" Daryl while keeping him distracted with pleasant thoughts of things they have to (supposedly) look forward to.
Incidentally, I watched both seasons in the States. Here, the part with Daryl's demise was the next-to-last episode. Then near the beginning of the Series 2 concluding episode is when Catherine and her fellow officer (I can't remember his name) come upon the scene, and how things at the farmhouse play out from there. Strong stuff, and top-notch performances, for sure.
