Need help from all you experts in the Batman universe. I have been watching Gotham from the beginning, and Jim Gordon has had this psycho on and off girlfriend named Barbara, and the character is still around. She has caused all kinds of trouble for Jim. For those of you who have ever named a kid, most often names are eliminated if you have had a bad experience with someone with that name. So how in the world do we expect Jim Gordon to name a future daughter Barbara so she can become Batgirl?

Batgirl who we'll never see due to the timeline, would most likely be his niece or adopted daughter, I don't think its been mentioned if Jim has a brother or sister in this.
But who knows, maybe psycho Barbara will get pregnant by Jim, with Jim bringing up the child alone.

Thanks. My only reference is the 1966 TV show where Batgirl was introduced as his daughter. I have heard there is a stand-alone Batgirl movie planned. Casting is the key. I like the new Wonder Woman a lot. Hope they do as well with Batgirl.

Yeah, in the comic book stories, she's usually his niece, daughter or adopted daughter. I'm looking forward to the Batgirl movie too.
She was never related to Alfred other than in Batman and Robin.

Which was a bizarre and terrible decision.

I don't recall the connection in the film. But in the 1966 Batman show, I thought it was a great decision. Watching Alfred having to juggle his relationship with Batman against Batgirl, and being honor bound not to tell either one what he knew about the other was fun.

She wasn't related to Alfred in the 66 series. She was Commissioner Gordon's daughter. The fact that Alfred knew that and Batman didn't is not the same as her being Alfred's niece in the movie.

Haven't been back here for awhile. I was referring to the decision to have Alred having a relation (not be a relation) to Batgirl. He knew her identity, as he knew Batman and Robin's. But none of them knew he knew and he had to go to interesting lengths to juggle those relationships.
