Discuss Fargo

Anybody down to shoot the shit about possibilities here? I'm thinking that Varga and the widow Goldfarb may be in cahoots here.

Nope, it wasn't me.

Sorry , maybe it was Jana?

But I mentioned that someone told me there was a rumor about scenes that were edited out. I've googled and can't find anything of the sort. I did read something in the NY Times where one of the lesser-known producers of Fargo said that he loved the finale because it was "of the moment". Really?

Yes , it's as if they ALL said" Let's get up and walk out at this moment ."

They gave us Varga salivating over his business take over again, and again and then again. They kept hitting us over the head with it. We got it, he's bad. And then the finale gave us nothing but maybe he got locked up and maybe he didn't. It's a personal choice of the viewer as to what you want to believe.

Making us SUFFER through his bloody gum picking, vomiting antics...just to end up staring at a darkened room...

Enough with your artsy-fartsy Schrodinger's cat and philosophies Fargo, give us something entertaining, that's all. If you can't do both, I can get some economic texts and polish up on my Camus without you.

Hey Invidia and Scorp, I saw you commenting on The Leftovers. I didn't see it, but was gonna check it out. Now I'm getting the idea that maybe it's another waste of time . Was it that annoying?

I don't want to spoil anything for you...

But you should watch and form your own opinion- you may feel different and love it.

Yes Scorp, I think I will watch it and see what the talk is all about, thanks. It seems as if it has characters that people can get invested in. Invidia, I loved your posts and summation of why you thought it ended as it did. I thought you made your case and will be interested to see it. Thanks both! Oh, and I am still rolling from everyone's posts about Fargo! I haven't had this much fun reading posts in a long time.

Not me unless I had a blackout that day or a moment of temporary insanity. I throw a fit when things are left too open in movies and shows because even if I like to think of myself as something of a philosopher, I expect to be entertained by others, not to be left doing the hard work myself. That's just lazy writing. Sure it's fun coming here to talk about it but you can't help but wonder what the writer's initial vision was. It's the same thing with shows that are cancelled, that's just infuriating. A show you've grown to love, a cliffhanger that makes you lose sleep and then it gets the axe. What happened to Wolfgang? Now I will never know 😔

Nora is also involved with a guy named KEVIN in the show. And he also keeps going to a place we called HOTEL LAND (some kind of an AFTER LIFE place like the bowling alley in FARGO).

So those episodes are also FUN to watch as well.

But we also NEVER really got any kind of explanation for what that place was all about which KEVIN also finally NUKES so he can never go back there again.

And we also got into another big argument over whether or not KEVIN was a representation of TRUMP or not when we see him as being the POTUS in this HOTEL LAND place where he orders it to be NUKED.

LINK HERE:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAUCVWsiYHw

So the show is lots of FUN to watch even if some of the issues raised in it are never answered or addressed or agreed upon.

And the characters are definitely interesting ones you get invested in watching.

Gloria from this show (as NORA in LO) also shines BIGTIME in her ROLE as does her brother (the former DR. WHO). In one eppy we also see him taking care of his wife who's in a COMA and we see how he has to do EVERYTHING for her, including feeding her through a TUBE, and mixing the stuff to feed her in a blender, and changing her urine bag, etc.

The actor in MATT'S role also SHINES BIGTIME as do many of the other characters in the show.

Anyhow, just post a message to the LEFTOVER discussion after you've seen it and the notice should also pop up next to the RED BELL so we can discuss whatever it is that you'd like to.

And YES it is FUN discussing shows isn't it?

And SCORP is also a great discussion buddie who also makes having discussions about shows that much more FUN.

We're currently discussing the NEW TWIN PEAKS now which runs until the 2nd week in SEPT.

Because it also has 18 EPISODES.

You should also check it out sometime, because you might also like that show as well (which is also pretty much the birth place of these other shows like FARGO and THE LEFTOVERS).

That scene with Kevin looked like he didn't even know he was president of the US. What was that? Is Hotel Land for real or do they not address it? I'm sure Twin Peaks is fun, I remember the original. The only way I can get it is to buy an app from Amazon Prime for Showtime and I've read that the hook-up is poor or doesn't work at all. I may wait til the season is over and purchase it then.

It's debatable whether or not they addressed HOTEL LAND adequately enough or not.

I say NOT.

But it was still also an interesting and a FUN place to visit.

He goes there 3 times.

The first time (at the end of S2) is because a man gives him POISON to drink telling him it will help him get rid of the GHOST of another character (named PATTI) who keeps HAUNTING him.

But the man who tells him to drink the poison, and explains how he also has an antidote for it that he'll inject him with, also squirts it out onto the floor, and then blows his own brains out after KEVIN drinks it and passes out.

So the grandson of the man who kills himself buries KEVIN, who crawls out of the dirt 8 hours later.

And the first thing that happens in HOTEL LAND is KEVIN is BORN (so to speak) naked in the bath tub of a HOTEL ROOM. Then there's 4 OUTFITS hanging up that he choses from to wear, etc. And this PATTI that HAUNTS him is also a SENATOR.

So there's still more political intrigue with her, and he also ends up throwing her into a well and drowns her.

The next time he goes to HOTEL LAND (born naked in the bathtub again) is after his next door neighbor SHOOTS him (the son of the man who blew his brains out), and he also sings HOMEWARD BOUND at a KARAOKE bar and gets to come back again.

Then on his 3rd time there (near the end of S3), he discovers that he's the POTUS. And he also has a TWIN BROTHER (like RAY and EMMIT in FARGO). And he also ends up killing his TWIN (like EMMIT does Ray).

Then PATTI (who's also his SECRETARY of STATE) also BULLIES him into SETTING off lots of NUKES that destroy the place.

You can also watch SHOT by SHOT videos of TWIN PEAKS.

That's what I'm doing (because like you I also don't have SHOWTIME).

Here's a link to EPISODE 7 of the shot by shot reviews of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBkSKc60yew

And Over to the side you'll also see other SHOT by SHOT links to EP 1 through 7 (EP 8 will air this SUNDAY).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBZuGlCO27M

Showtime also let the first 2 episodes of it AIR on you tube for a few days before they took them down.

So if I can discuss it that way with SCORP, so can you.

Movie Nazi and I are currently having a HEATED DEBATE now over the way he calls LAURA PALMER a WHORE.

He's called me a PURITAN.

I've called MN MEAN.

And someone has also given my messages a THUMBS UP.

SCORP was that you???

Or do we have someone else who's reading what we say over there???

Sorry Invidia, I tried but shot to shot is too difficult. They keep yapping and it takes too long to get to the next shot. I like the weirdness of Lynch's off-kilter scenes. And when he does something comedic it's better to see it first hand. Maybe I'll try the app.

Yes they are very CHATTY.

But There's also another link that's faster, and reviews the episode in about 15 min.

Here's a review of Parts 1 and 2 which are 20 min long:

(Parts or Ep 1, 2, 3 and 4 were also released on the same night when the show first began).

Here's Part 3 which is only 8 MIN long:

Invidia asked, "Have the WRITERS/PRODUCERS of this show also done the same thing and tried to defend themselves in interviews they've done about this show?"

I had incorrectly thought you or Kathy had said something about this-

so very SORRY :weary: :bouquet:

I agree totally with this, I can use my own imagination, but just don't throw in characters and situations (that they make you believe are important) without expanding and following through with them.

Sure it's fun coming here to talk about it but you can't help but wonder what the writer's initial vision was. It's the same thing with shows that are cancelled, that's just infuriating. Thank you for your support SCORP.

Did you NOTE the way MN completely AVOIDS the questions they were asked about how come they aren't a WHORE themselves if they think it's such a fine way for someone to make a living.

Guess that also means they've LOST the debate?

Whew! I finally made it through all the videos. These were pretty explanatory, at least as for what happened in the actual scenes. I don't think anyone can put together what's really going on yet. Pete in the vids mentioned that he thought that maybe the Dougie and Bad Coop characters are just completely different stories and timelines. Could be, but Diane seems to realize that Bad Coop is someone who might be able to change back and forth between personalities. Thanks for the videos Invidia. I'll watch what he puts out tomorrow and post at TP if I have a comment.

Here's Pete's QUICKIE review of Ep 8:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JTqqhjY8xM

You can find my views of what it might mean over at the TP forum.

Look for the EPISODE 8 TOPIC or GO HERE:

where lots of reference is also made to his very first film called ERASERHEAD.

SPOILERS...

The finale was as good as any finale though I was a bit sad Nikki got killed. Sure she wasn't an angel, but she was no cold blooded murderer. Jail would have been fine. (And I thought Emmit ran out of gas!)

Emmit also really did not deserve to die, though he too was no saint. Mr. Wrench assumed I am sure that Emmit killed Nikki and waited for the right moment to enact revenge. Btw, bringing Wrench back on the show was a great move. Gave a link to all three seasons.

Gloria now working for the DHS, where I am sure her talents are put to better use, was a great way for the character to progress. I was truly happy for her. No more dealing with Captain Iron Shorts.

Varga? That was left so ambiguous as all we got was a fade on him like he was a shadow and then the clock on the wall showing the minutes go by. We never truly will know if Gloria's scenario or his scenario played out. Guess we'll have to assume from our own life experiences and observations what went down.
