As was the case in some other episodes, they screwed up some speed-of-light stuff here. Supposedly the fleets would have been destroyed by a supernova, but even a supernova doesn't exceed the speed of light. So all the ships could have escaped at just Warp One.

I'm sure that was the attempt, but it disappears if you know anything. And not just about reality, but even about the shows!

There are plenty of ways to do that without lying about physics.

Oh I do. Often. But that doesn't mean I let other things off the hook.
And of course Bajor could not have escaped the supernova. Nor could have all of those moons which impossibly had Earth-type atmospheres and gravity.

Maybe you should apply for the job of continuity at Secret Hideout.

I wouldn't last a day. Maybe not an hour. They seem to be like the director of Star Trek II who, when told that Gamma Hydra was near the Romulans not the Klingons, supposedly said 'Who cares?"

Apart from some fans with an anal obsession over small details like that nobody does care since TWOK is generally regarded as the best Trek movie.

Sure and there's at least the possibility that Starfleet training simulations didn't necessarily have to be that accurate. They might switch between Romulans and Klingons for that one just at random, to mix things up.

But really if they're going to do stuff like that, it wouldn't hurt to explain it. Because otherwise we're left with the reality, which was that the director didn't give a crap.
