Jill et Stan Pembroke sont un couple épanoui, avec une vie professionnelle bien remplie. Mais avec trois enfants à la maison – Lila, 14 ans, Douglas, 12 ans et Jason, 10 ans – ils ont un peu de mal à concilier travail et vie de famille. Pour les aider à faire face au quotidien, ils décident d'embaucher Charles, 19 ans, un étudiant qui va pouvoir les aider à s'occuper de leur charmante mais épuisante progéniture...
