Discuss The Blacklist

Any theories? Last ep, when Liz met her, um, sister, kinda made me believe even stronger in a theory of my own as to what is going on. I think its too simple to be Katarina's bones.

The bones are the remains of Raymond Reddington. The REAL Raymond Reddington. And that woman is the daughter of the real Raymond Reddington, while Liz is "our" Red's real daughter.

I remember years ago someone (either here or at the boards at IMDB before they shut them down) floated the theory that Red was deep cover NSA, or at least part some sort of a shadow agency similar to the Task Force. Though we didn't realize that might not have been his name all along.

Katarina had a handler, later husband, in Kirk, and a target, later lover, in Red. What if there was another party, the guy assigned to protect Red (remember this was pre Dembe). Only HE fell for Katarina too. And I think RealRed...was not a nice guy. In Katarina's mind she left one cruel man for another but found salvation in this third guy. So since birth Liz has always had three men who could possibly be her father. Fast foward to the fire. I think Little Liz shot and killed the real Raymond the night of the fire, "our" Red was there and at that point he assumed his identity. Its possible the bones are what was left of the real Red's body after the fire subsided. Either Red had surgery to look like the real Red, or, and this is stretching it but possible, only a handful of people ever saw the real Red face to face anyway, and Kirk was not one of them. However, Ian Garvey, WAS one of the few people who knew the real Red, either they were close friends or even biological brothers (it would be funny if they were twin brothers). Hence his interest in the bones.

I think the people who know Raymond isn't the real Raymond is small, but easy to extrapolate, and some are dead. Dembe and Mr. Kaplan of course. Katarina. Katarina's father (can't remember his name). Possibly Howard (Tom's father). Tom in the end. Kirk in the end: I think this is what Raymond whispered into his ear the last time we saw him. And, finally, Ian Garvey.

If this is true, does this invalidate anything or "betray" the audience? No, cause while he may not be the original Red who started this empire, he's the person who maintained it all these decades. If he wasn't REALLY a crafty, cunning, and at times ruthless "concierge" it would have crumbled years ago.

And again, Liz is a profiler?? Where is her acute insight into human nature?

I thought of this as well. I know this is a fictional show, but come on...there has to be a basic level of realism here.

It's funny to read posts from people who see things as Lizzie does. I read one today which said that "Reddington is the cause of everything bad that has ever happened to her, including Tom's death" and went on to say that he should die a slow death!

I can only assume that person is as emotionally labile as the Liz character on the show. Red caused Tom's death? Only if you follow the same pretzel logic Liz uses. Like: "Ian Garvey would never have killed Tom while trying to steal the bones from Tom if Tom didn't have the bones, which were given to him by Kate, after she dug them up. Therefore it's Red's fault."

At the end of the episode The Lindquist Concern Liz read an SVR file Tom gave her which claimed that Masha was Alexander Kirk's daughter. She went to see Red and emotionally laid into him: 'You told me I shot my father. You lied. Everything you ever told me, all lies.'

But Red always said her father died in a fire. It was after she shot Tom Connelly that Lizzie remembered shooting her father, and she told Red that she recalled shooting him. Red didn't tell her that. But that is typical of Lizzie in this show. Honestly, I think the writers really overplay this trope. And of course Kirk was NOT her father, but Lizzie never apologized to Reddington for 1- her revisionist history or 2- once again getting it wrong and falsely accusing him of lying to her.

In the season 5 finale, Reddington, thinking Lizzie had been abducted made the offer "my life for hers", once again offering himself to save her. But Lizzie, speaking to hallucination Tom, spoke with something close to contempt for Red as she said she knew he would do that, as though it was a chauvinistic act, something else to despise him for, a character flaw she exploited to set him up. It is sickening to see how proud of herself she is for lying to Red, how smug she is, how self righteous she acts as she postures as his victim, and how vindictive she is over these imagined wrongs.

For his part, Red has been generally very honest with Lizzie. He has not always been forthcoming with all she wanted to know, and he has told her repeatedly that he simply cannot tell her certain things about his past. That isn't lying, it is being honest about having to keep secrets.

I am getting really sick of Lizzie. She was simply an immature kid. Now she is an emotionally labile bitch

Somebody shoot Liz !!! I am fed up of her total idiocy and selfishness. She should listen to herself when she told Red it was his secret and he was entitled to keep it. I am not convinced that Red is convinced by her newfound understanding attitude, I think he knows she is up to something, so just shoot her and get it over with !!

Many kudos to write2topcat and RodimusConvoy for such excellent comments! Thank you both for your unadulterated summations.
