Kidnappers and their motivation revealed.

A swastika coin gives Klaus a clue to Hayley's abduction. Klaus discovers a lady vampire who admits to being one of the kidnappers. She is captured and tortured. In flashbacks we learn more Michaelson history. Klaus and Elijah in a bar in 1930's Nazi Germany listen to a German vampire philosopher spout anti-werewolf rhetoric. This history relates to Hayley's abduction.

Back in the present the tortured vampire reveals she and many others fear that hybrid Hope will use her blood to create more hybrids, spelling the end of the vampires. Unless Hope undergoes a dangerous binding spell, locking away her werewolf nature, they will kill Hayley. Away at school Hope learns of this.

Elijah kills a man stalking Antoinette and she reveals secrets from her past, causing Elijah to mistrust her.

Klaus tells Marcel that his excesses in the 1930s are responsible for his present troubles.

The lady vampire escapes from Klaus's dungeon. At school, Hope asks her boyfriend for help and together they sneak away from school. But the boyfriend has a special connection to the plotters, as does Elijah's girlfriend Antoinette. Is Hope heading into a trap?

The above was meant to be a plot outline for another site, but was deemed too long. So screw it. I also had to omit any spoilers, but I don't know how to do that when describing a plot. Anyway, this episode revealed a lot about the people and motivation for Hayley's abduction. Seems there are a LOT of vampires concerned about Hope and the possibility of her creating more hybrids whose bites would be fatal to vampires. How many of Klaus' New Orleans vampires are secretly in league with the kidnappers? Hard to say, but the wife of the man Klaus killed in 1930s Germany for slaughtering werewolves intimates there are quite a large number who support her.

Antoinette reveals to Elijah her familial connection to the kidnappers. We can see now how Elijah is going to be 'pulled back in' to the family drama once again.

I loved the episode! The past connections revealed. I didn't suspect Hope's boyfriend to be connected, but loved that twist! I'm thinking Elijah will go back to New Orleans soon. I really like seeing Marcel and Klaus working together!

I'm not really liking where the story is going.

I think this is the final season for the series. So they are having to drive the story toward some kind of conclusion, but I cannot yet picture how that might happen. I did notice that Klaus acted a bit less paranoid and narcissistic in this episode. In the past he would have done damage to Marcel for going against his wishes. This time he began speaking of how his past excessive actions (slaughtering guilty and innocent alike when he killed that Nazi vampire in front of his family's house) were the genesis of his present problems. That is the kind of observation Elijah usually makes and Klaus usually rejects or rationalizes away. So perhaps they are setting up a redemption of that character in some way.

What about the direction of the story presently don't you like? Just curious.

The whole 'family' in danger & the ultimate demise of most of them? I know that this is the last season but I have a bad feeling that Plec is going to totally mess everything up. I do not want redemption for Klaus (who is my favorite character), he is a vampire. How do you redeem someone who has taken lives for over a thousand years. Although I wouldn't mind if he could move on from depending on Elijah so much. I also DO NOT WANT to see him go off into the sunset with Caroline.

Right, I don't want his actions justified or written off as nothing. I just mean the way these shows always seem to 'redeem' characters in the sense that they make them act nicer, make them more sympathetic characters to the audience, etc. Clearly they are all monstrous mass murderers, as are the werewolves, and even many of the witches for that matter. The witches don't depend upon murdering normal humans to survive, but they are often very quick to murder those who merely disagree with them, as they did with Father Kieren.

Perhaps they will be made human to live out mortal lives somehow, and perhaps karma will come calling somehow. But I have no idea what the plans are for ending the show.
