Discuss Bates Motel

So, I'm just starting season 5. I thought season 4 was terrific, and I heard that Rihanna turns up as Marion Crane!! What's the general consensus so far. Does Vera Farmiga turn up much in flashbacks- or is it all Freddie's show now??

Vera Farmiga is still very present in the show, just because Norma died, doesn't mean Vera is gone. She is there a lot. Season 5 so far has been strong , it looks like the final season is going out on a high note, which is refreshing to say, because most shows tend to overstay their welcome.

That's great to hear. How is she not winning Emmys for her performance on that show!!? So underrated.

100% agree

I don't know, her or Freddie. Freddie's performance is so good that I feel bad for Norman which I didn't feel for Psycho Norman. Vera is just as good as she always is. I'm going to miss this show.

Yes, it's heartbreaking to watch what Norman is going through. Freddie has a way of looking like that sweet innocent little boy from Finding Neverland when he's "normal" to the tormented character all in one scene.

His performances are so exemplary in every episode. He makes it look easy but that character requires so much tough thesping

IMO, the whole show is under rated. They are so good. I'm already wondering wwhat I'll watch next once it ends. I never thought it'd be Sam Loomis who gets killed in the shower.

I totally agree with you. Especially when his eyes well up with those gigantic tears, makes me want to sob

Highmore does have the luxury of much more screen time to explore the nuances of the character whereas Perkins' impact had to be fairly instant. I hope HIghmore is able to keep up that quality of acting going forward in his career; arguably the best young actor out there at the moment.

This is so true.

Yep it's easy to underestimate how skilful those performances are by Highmore. I wonder if he's a Method actor, and would be interested to hear how he gets in the right frame of mind for those scenes.
