Discuss WWE Raw

As I mentioned in a previous thread, I'm in the process of watching every WM main event and am going to rank them all here when I finish. Last night I re-watched the Wrestlemania 20 main event, which I hadn't seen in a long time (I often get uncomfortable re-watching old Benoit matches for obvious reasons).

[I keep typing things here and then erasing them as I try to convey the way this match/moment made me feel without making it sound like I'm any sort of Benoit apologist. I figured just being honest and saying that was better than anything I can come up with. I hope I choose my words right here, but Benoit also isn't really part of the point I'm trying to make here. and I think most everyone will understand that.]

The end of the show, as everyone remembers, was Benoit and Eddie hugging each other and celebrating their respective championships together. Something that hit me hard as I'm watching this is the uniqueness of this moment compared to almost everything WWE has presented us with since then. Two guys who were best friends, who grew and struggled together, standing tall together. This moment is a bit of an anomaly in WWE history because it's two guys so far out of the WWE mold, but it's one of the best moments in WWE history.

I don't want to go all anti-Roman or anti-Cena here, but in the time since then the company has mostly only revolved around those two guys and manufactured drama around them to try to create moments for them (as I type this, they're about to do it for the fourth year in a row with Roman). Seeing the story of Eddie and Chris at WM 20 just made me wonder what stories like theirs that we've missed out on over the years as WWE put all their eggs in the Cena/Roman baskets. It makes me sad to think there could have been stories as good as the Eddie and Chris one that the company overlooked while paying attention to Cena and Reigns.

That's exactly why it's such a great ending and major moment in the business. They were outside of the mold. The only wrestler I think has had such a great iconic moment that was somewhat emotional was maybe Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania 30.
