What do you think O'Neill told Joe's wife at the end?

But what was "It's all true?" He wouldn't have admitted it was actual aliens etc, not to her, that would have been a horrible security breach. More likely he would have said it was some kind of training scenarios or something.

If they were going to allow her to know the real story, they would have taken her to the base like they did with Joe.

I was thinking, though, that it might have been neat if they had occasion in a later episode to need Joe for something when O'Neill was unavailable, something that required that "Ancient gene.' Perhaps even something to do with the Ancient weapon.

I actually found this episode while looking for another, which I still haven't found, which involved some kind of alien refugees on Earth, who may have lost their memories or something... eventually they located their ship and took off again.

They show up for me. In fact imdb says he was in 3 episodes, not 2.

Hmm, looking through that episode, it doesn't seem to be the right one. I didn't see any kind of alien spaceship taking off, it reminded me of the "flying wing" like at the start of the Lost In Space movie.

Maybe it was one of the other "Martin Lloyd" episodes, or a different episode entirely.

The "show within a show" trope has been overused though, probably here before "Supernatural" but the great old show "UFO" did it too, although fortunately only once.

Okay, the real alien ship is at the end of the episode "Wormhole X-Treme!" which is the second "Martin Lloyd" episode.

At least that's the closest I've found so far. What I remember is more of a "close call" than shown in that episode.

That's the one I skimmed through, but they blew up the ship in that one. "Wormhole X-Treme!" is where another ship came to pick up the others, but Martin stayed on Earth.

Why the others wanted to get picked up, when I think at the end of "Point Of No Return" Martin had found their homeworld in ruin, I don't know.

The five aliens, including Martin, landed on Earth in an escape pod. Then they set the ship on a timer to return later, as a backup plan in case things didn't go right on Earth. Martin started to have doubts and wanted to go back, so the other four drugged him to suppress his memories. After the pod was discovered, it was blown up to leave no evidence of their existence. But it was too late, because now they were pursued by the NID. In "Wormhole X-Treme!" there were only three of these four left, who were going after Martin. Knowing that the ship was returning, they needed him, because he had the mobile computing device to access the ship. They left Earth on the ship and so succeeded in escaping from the NID.

Did they know what had happened to their homeworld? Was it really destroyed completely, or were there survivors? At the end of "Point of No Return" Martin only sees the devastated area surrounding the Stargate. It's a big planet, and only that part could have been destroyed to prevent the inhabitants to use the Stargate. I was surprised that the Stargate was untouched and functioning.

Yes, the Gates themselves seem able to withstand anything short of perhaps a nuclear blast. Although if it had fallen over, anyone trying to come through it might have gone into rock or something. Or if the dialer had been disabled or destroyed, it would have been a one-way trip. And I wonder how it is they seem to know the return-to-Earth coordinates PLUS the origin symbol for every place they visit.. I suppose Martin and the others would know their planet's origin symbol, but they didn't use the Gate, so how would they have known Earth's coordinates relative to their world? And how would they have known their home world's coordinates relative to Earth?

In any event, they knew how to get to Martin's world and the Gate wasn't buried or something Because Drama, and the dialer was still usable and they knew the coordinates to get back Because Plot.

Yes. It is always plot and drama. wink

Memory can play tricks on you. Have you noticed that the episode before "Point of No Return", "Beneath the Surface" was also about memory tampering? And before that there was the episode "Scorched Earth", which is about Enkaran refugees, who had been kidnapped by the Goa'uld to be used as slaves. They didn't know where their homeworld was and there was no Stargate there, so after they were freed, they were resettled on a new planet. Then a terraforming space ship threatened their new home and was only seconds away before reaching the settlement. Then it stopped and it was discovered that this space ship from an extinct civilization, the Gadmeer, by coincidence did know where they came from, so in the end it took them back to their home planet.

Hmm, looks like Bratface got kicked off the site.

Nope!

Someone did, I thought it was you. (Or maybe it WAS you, under a different user ID?)

Cuz several other comments disappeared. And you're not showing as a "user in this discussion."
