Discuss Absolutely Fabulous

Suggested Episode #: s00e53

Short Content: "Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders tour the Champaign region of France"

BBC episode description: "Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders are two of the country's best-loved comedy icons. In Absolutely Fabulous, their alter egos Eddie and Patsy loved nothing more than cracking open a bottle of champagne. Now, Joanna and Jennifer are reuniting on-screen to take a trip to the Champagne region of France to find out exactly how to put the bubbles into bubbly.

They immerse themselves in all things fizz, joining the grape pickers during their annual two-week harvest, adventuring down the miles of underground cellars and even tasting a tipple or two. During their journey they take a trip down memory lane, sharing special stories of filming Ab Fab and reminiscing about their friendship. Packed with funny moments and favourite Ab Fab clips, this special is best served with something chilled."

This is a one-off TV special (it have a dedicated page on the BBC website, separate from the series). It is already listed in the movies part of our database.

Yes, but... so it the AbFab movie.

Clearly, the AbFab movie is completely aligned with the TV series... however, these two boozing it up in France is more in line with the show than some of the interviews that have been included.

TVDB has entered it as s00e53... doing so would keep that number aligned.

And from a personal request, as a KODI user, I would not have to switch my scraper to pull it in, and then worry later about a numbering conflict.

As Edie would say: right, cheers.

As visible in this previous report, the movie has already been removed previously. I have just removed it again.

We never duplicate movies in the specials season of series.

TVDB has entered it as s00e53... doing so would keep that number aligned.

In 2017, when this thing aired, TVDB was only supporting series, not movies. This explain why they have listed it as a special episode of a series.

There are no rules that specify that the specials should be the same between the different sites.

OK... I defer to the current thought process. TV is TV and Movies are Movies.

However, that does raise a question, and the potential of a general feature add:

For those of us that have large libraries, from an enjoyment perspective it would be preferred to have the ability to cross-over some items from one category to another.

AN EXAMPLE: For instance, much like this request (and the recently removed AbFab film)... Doctor Who is definitely a BBC TV series, but yet they have released movies as well. Knowing where those Doctor Who movies may be on a large digitized movie library is unlikely, but being able to cross reference it to the specials category in the TV series would make it quickly accessible for viewing enjoyment.

So a movie of a TV series would absolutely be in the Movie category, but a secondary ID could be available for those who would want to include that information in their own TV database when scraping show information.

All in all, that would add a new field in your database schema, unpopulated for most movies, but very useful for some films.

I wish you well. and appreciate the quick responses provided.

You will have to wait for the development of the universe type collections. But no delay is available.
