Ragnar and Ecbert? Two of the most charismatic characters in the show. I honestly do not see the show lasting long.

I think it ended with Ragnar out. It's a shame because since the show started I wanted to like it more than I actually liked it. I'll continue watching just because but the show for me couldn't get over the hump.

Yeah, I think the show told Ragnar's story and is pretty much out of gas. I will try to continue to watch it but I don't see it lasting long.

I'm still enjoying the show. I'm very interested to see where they go with Ragnar's sons, specifically Ivar. I think there is still quite a bit of story to be told. The sneak peak for next season looks great!

Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a very good and charismatic actor. Perhaps he will help fill the void.

Ok, testing the quoting function on an Android phone. A "preview" option would come in handy for us TMDB newbies.
I'm not very familiar with JRM's body of work. However, I did really enjoy the short lived and, IMHO, prematurely cancelled Dracula. I thought the show, not to mention his acting was just stellar. 😊

Nah. It just moved on to the next generation of Vikings to follow.

Alex Høgh Andersen who plays Ivar, pretty much saved it, what a charismatic actor!
If they had messed up the casting of Ivar the show would be doomed, thankfully they found a diamond in the rough.

I do like Ivar. loved the ax toss to shit talker for ten points.

Still, when he pulled the ax out of his own chest and started staggering towards Ivar with it, it was ironically funny to see in Ivar's eyes fear of the least macho Viking on the show yet.

I don't know, doesn't he get props just for that? Pulling an axe out of his own chest and even attempting to walk takes some huge ass Viking balls IMO.

Dracula was the shit! I could've gone with a few more seasons of that. In any case, JRM might have a meaty role here - or not. Ivar will pick up any slack though.

Ragnar was for sure the most fascinating character of all, and I have serious doubts that the show will survive without him. His sons are interesting but I don't think they can keep it going. The producer/writer could probably save the show by focusing more on Lagertha and Rollo, and I hope that's what will happen.
I recently discovered that I am descended from a line of Vikings who settled in Normandy in the 10th century, and who may have been one of Rollo's "soldiers". Rollo was a real person by the way who became the first Duke of Normandy when the French King offered him a large area of land in return for not attacking anymore.

Ragnar was the reason I got hooked on the series. (The eyes, the hands, the smirk... haha, very superficial.)
Besides that, I really liked the insight the series gave into the life of the Norsemen in season 1, although not always entirely historically correct. I liked the way we viewed the Norsemen through Athelstan's eyes. The second season was very enjoyable too, with The Lord's Prayer as best episode ever, but after that I kind of lost interest. Too much soap like story lines.
Now that Ragnar has gone, I can't think of a reason to keep watching. Aslaug is gone, and I feel Hirst never really 'used' her full potential. I was hoping that she would be able to explore the strength of her 'powers' much more. Lagertha is boring as hell right now and her arch seems to be going nowhere, but I didn't pay too much attention this last season, so perhaps I'm wrong. The sons don't have what Ragnar had, and Rollo's story seems to have been told.
I'm looking forward to the second season of The Last Kingdom. It starts March 16th. That series starts right about where Vikings ended. Ubbe/Ubba makes his appearance, and although the series has a very high pace, it feels rushed at times, it's well worth the watch.

I still need to watch the final episode of season 4 (so I spoiled myself on Ecbert's death, but that's on me). I for one will miss Ragnar, I doubted his death for as long as possible, but had to remind me the show is called Vikings, not Ragnar's Adventures.
I like Ecbert as well, and probably like Lagertha about as much. I will try to direct my investment in Ragnar to Bjorn, but I could do without Ivar for the most part.
