조엘은 동굴 조사를 하는 동안 얼음 괴물에게 위헙을 느끼게 된다. 가까스로 탈출한 조엘은 집으로 돌아온다. 조엘은 종말론을 주장하지만 의회는 받아들이지 않는다. 계속해서 크립톤 행성은 잦은 지진이 발생하고 행성사람들은 불안하기만 한데...... 하지만 의회는 크립톤의 종말에 대해 불신은 갖는다. 그사이 인공 지능 브레니악은 멸망을 확신하고 위성에 클립톤에 대한 정보를 전송한다.또한 조엘은 자신의 아들 칼엘을 지구로 보낼 계획을 한다.

클립톤 행성은 멸망 할 때 지구에 보내진 칼엘의 우주선은 스몰빌에 안착한다. 이때 차를 타고 지나가던 마사와, 그의 남편은 우주선에 있던 칼엘을 발견한다. 마사는 어린 아이를 발견하고 아이를 마음에 들어한다. 아이가 필요했던 마사는 아이를 키우기로 결심한다. 소년이 된 캔트(칼엘)은 학교생활을 하며 그의 초인적인 능력으로 위험에 빠진 사람들을 구하는데....자신에게 능력이 있다는 걸 안 클락은 왜 초인적인 능력이 생겼는지에 대한 의문을 자신이 타고온 우주선에서 단서를 발견한다.

루터 기업의 신 무기 취재를 나갔던 클락은 무기를 탈취를 시도한 사람들을 쫒는다. 하지만 그 과정에서 비행기가 추락을 하게 되고 캔트는 도심으로 떨어진 비행기를 안전하게 착륙시키고 사라진다. 이 사건으로 클락은 사람들에게 알려지게 된다. 가슴의 'S'자를 보고 플래닛 기자인 로이스는 슈퍼맨으로 부르기로 한다. 슈퍼맨은 로이스를 찾아가 인터뷰를 하게 된다. 클락은 비행기 탈취 사건을 렉스의 자작극이라고 의심하게 되는데.....

Thanks to the orchestrations of Lex Luthor, terrorist John Corben becomes Metallo, a skin-covered cyborg with a Krytonite heart. Luthor then sets the supervillain on a quest to kill Superman.

When embittered scientist Earl Garver goes into a coma before revealing the location of a ticking bomb, Superman risks enlisting the Parasite to drain the information from Garver's mind.
