TRIVIA

Lani John Tupu, who appears regularly as Captain Crais, also provides the voice of Pilot.

Originally Gigi Edgley's character Chiana was supposed to be killed off after a few episodes. But the producers liked her so much they changed their minds and made her a regular cast member.

The show faced the very real threat of cancellation halfway through its first season when its production location, Fox Studios Australia, "forced" them out to make way for another production: Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002). The logistical problems of moving the large and expensive sets to a Stateside location would have been too cost-prohibitive. Fortunately, another studio was found nearby that was able to house the production (at Homebush), and the series was renewed for a second season.

Crichton makes references to numerous movies and television shows throughout the series. Some of these include: He bemoans the fact that Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) might be dead by the time he gets back to Earth.

He refers to Moya as "the Federation Starship Buttcrack".

He quotes lines from Apocalypse Now (1979) and Blazing Saddles (1974).

He writes "Hi there!" on a bomb he throws, a reference to Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964). These references are named "Crichtonisms" by fans.

Ben Browder's wife, Francesca Buller, has played three different guest starring roles in Farscape's first three seasons (M'Lee in "Bone to Be Wild", Ro-Na in "Look at the Princess" and Raxil in Farscape: Scratch 'n Sniff (2001)), all three as antagonists to John Crichton. In the Fourth Season, she came back again as recurring character War Minister Akhna, another antagonist.

Crichton's nickname for Chiana, "Pip", came from Ben Browder. It was originally Ben Browder's nickname for Gigi Edgley, who plays Chiana.

Ben Browder is the only actor to appear in all 88 episodes of the series. In second place is Jonathan Hardy, who provides the voice of Rygel in every episode except for "Losing Time", "Incubator", Farscape: Scratch 'n Sniff (2001) and "Revenging Angel".

At one point the show was re-named to Far Horizon before switching back to Farscape.

The character John Crichton was ranked 20th in American magazine TV Guide's list of the "25 Greatest Sci-Fi Legends" (1 August 2004 issue).

The show is infamous among German fans due to the fact that only the first three seasons were dubbed into German (the fourth season was not dubbed because of low ratings). It was expected that the final season would eventually be dubbed for the DVD release but Koch Media, the home video licensee, deemed the cost too high.

Paul Goddard (Stark) originally auditioned for the role of Scorpius.

Ranked 4th in American magazine TV Guide's list of the "25 Top Cult Shows Ever!" (30 May 2004 issue).

In August 2002, the cancellation of Farscape was leaked by David Kemper, Richard Manning and Ben Browder in an online chat at Scifi.com. Fans began a campaign to save the series and have hopes that a fifth season will follow, especially since the fourth season finale was written with the fifth season in mind. After more than a year of rumours of a feature film or revived series being produced, plans were announced for a series-ending mini-series for 2004: Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars (2004).

Ben Browder and Claudia Black returned back to screen together in the final few seasons of Stargate SG-1 (1997).

Raelee Hill (Sikozu) originally auditioned for the role of Commandant Grayza.

The font used in the credits and on posters is Pritchard, designed by Martin Wait in 1990.

Ben Browder is a huge sci-fi fan, just like John Crichton. His participation first on Farscape & later on Stargate SG-1 (1997) is like a dream come true for him.

The character of DK is named after Farsape writer and producer David Kemper.

Grant Bowler who plays Chief Lawman Joshua Nolan on the Syfy show Defiance (2013) starred in Farscape: That Old Black Magic (1999) as Liko the shaman.

Jason Clarke who was in 4 episodes of FARSCAPE's fourth season as two different characters, later had prominent roles in updates of old film franchises: Terminator Genisys (2015) and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014).

SPOILERS

The trivia items below may give away important plot points. Virginia Hey was originally required to shave her head for the full-body makeup needed for Zhaan. In later episodes, the makeup was modified to include a skullcap, allowing her to grow her hair back. Besides her problems with contact lenses, the make-up itself also negatively impacted Hey's health and was a factor in her decision to leave the series.

Crichton calls the Scorpius clone that resides in his mind "Harvey", after the invisible rabbit in the classic James Stewart film, Harvey (1950). The name was suggested by a fan website.

Melissa Jaffer plays Utu-Noranti Pralatong also referred to as "wrinkles" by Chiana and "old lady/grandma" by Crichton. Jaffer later starred as "Keeper of the seeds" in Mad Max: Fury Road (2015).
