I agree with Ed. Recognizing faces out of context is difficult and a voice over the phone can be even more daunting. Seeing someone famous at an airport or party when you don't expect it or you're distracted with other things on your mind, might register as a familiar face, but the next step is then connecting it with a name. Not remembering the name can happen to any one, especially when there is no professional, emotional or personal connection.

It’s just how people’s brains are wired.
